Stefanie
Ranked #38 of 59 Hotels in Seefeld in Tirol
Reviewed 17 April 2013

I booked a holiday in Seefeld with Thomson staying at Hotel Stefanie seeing as the friends I would be joining were only across the road in Hotel Schoenruh which was around £300 more than I had paid for the week. I ended up eating every meal in the Schoenruh and using the wellness facilities throughout my stay. I stayed in a single room in Hotel Stefanie which was pleasantly decorated and very clean but a little dated. The rooms my friends stayed in the Schoenruh were pleasant but a also little dated and I would have been disappointed had I paid as much as they did. However, the restaurant and bar areas were beautiful with intricately carved timber ceilings. Our waiter for the week was George who made an occasion out of every meal time, he really was excellent. The food was delicious with an excellent selection for breakfast each day and omelettes cooked to order. Dinner was ordered at breakfast and there was such a variety of choices; they all sounded so good it was hard to make a decision on some days! Although the holiday was sold as a half board package, a delicious buffet lunch was available in the Hotel Schoenruh bar everyday so it seemed like more of a full board deal. The wellness centre was lovely, with an indoor and outdoor pool, Jacuzzi and a variety of different saunas and steam rooms. They don't let you wear your swimwear in the saunas and steam rooms but for those that don't want to strip off, they didn't seem to mind if you wrap yourself in a towel. It's a 5 minute walk to the ski bus stop and around a 10 minute bus journey to the slopes of the Gschwandtkopf and Rosshutte. The downhill ski area is quite small and mostly suited to intermediate skiiers but there are lots of cross country routes for which the resort is renowned. Overall, it is excellent value as you get to use the 4 star facilities of the sister hotel if you don't mind the short walk across the road.

I had a top floor room (and got some exercise climbing the stairs, especially after skiing). Room was great: low ceilings, but had space for five (though I was on my own). I appreciated the elbow room. Bed was very comfortable; pillows were fine too (I had loads of them). Bathroom was ample and there was plenty of hot water. Staff were very friendly: indeed all of Austria seemed friendly to me. There is a very small bar (room for ten or so), though you can expand into the dining room. Had good chats in the evening. Reasonable prices. Breakfasts were fine -- more than ample: each person has a seat at an assigned table for the whole holiday. Dinner was the same, though at a restaurant down the street, where again you sit at your assigned seat -- on your own if you are on your own, which doesn't make for great conversation. Still, the food was exceptional -- very exceptional. Wine is surprisingly expensive, but you can order beer, which is reasonable. And if you don't finish your wine, it will be there the next day for you. Service varied: sometimes it was superb, at other times (as a single guest), you had to work hard to get noticed. You can use the spa facilities of this hotel (better than the sister hotel Stefanie, though the Stefaie pool is fine and I had it to myself much of the time). Beware: saunas are not single-sex and nudity is not just tolerated but really quite required -- a bit of a surprise for shyish North Americans. The ski resort is very, very limited (you can ski it all in half a day). There is a free ski bus, but it doesn't start until after the lifts open. Most people were there for winter walking rather than skiing. Apparently the walking is very, very good.

Just arrived back from a week at the Stefanie, like some previous comments say the rooms could do with a bit of updating but the amount of time we spent in the room it wasn't really an issue. Staff at the hotel were excellent, some were not so good at the Schonruh across the road where the evening meal was taken. Although the Schonruh was a far more modern hotel and presumably a lot more expensive to stay at than the Stefanie, we tended to find it quite busy most evenings.

We used the indoor pool at the Stefanie most days, it tended to be quite quiet although this may have had something to do with the weather which was superb and I presume most people used the outdoor pool at the Schonruh.

Would certainly consider returning.

I echo the comments of the previous reviewer. We stayed at the Stefanie in August 2011 and although the rooms are serviceable, they do need updating. The Wellness hotel 50 yards down the road (where you have dinner and can use the pool and spa) is a complete contrast with a modern 5 star feel. Good 5 course buffet and reasonable drink prices. Breakfast at the Stefanie is fine and it also has its own pool. Friendly check-in staff who speak English. Usual rubbish thin Austrian pillows. No free internet terminal though. Paid 117 euros per night for double room for two with half board.

Room Tip: Use the pool down the road

We spent two weeks at the Stefanie (booked with Inghams). We were very impressed with the dedication of Manfred and his team who could not have been more helpful. A lovely breakfast is served at the Stefanie and dinner is taken at the Wellness Hotel a short stroll down the road. The standard of food was excellent and probably the best we have experienced on a package holiday. It is also possible to use the Spa facilities at the Wellness Hotel aswell as having the opportunity to take advantage of a complimentary buffet lunch when you are booked on a half board basis. The only disappointment is the decor of the Stefanie rooms as they are tired and in need of updating. We asked to change our room on arrival because the first one felt rather dark and only had a bath (we had booked a shower). They are however spotless and everywhere cleaned to a high standard. Internet access is expensive at one Euro for 10 minutes in the Wellness Hotel - a good idea might be to provide guests with 60 minutes free access during their stay. When we stayed in Barcelona recently this is what we were provided with although we did not use the full hour at least we weren't in dnager of being cut off imid-way.

Friendly and helpful staff; close to centre of town. Excellent facilities at partner hotel - just across the road. Inside and outside (heated) pool; sauna and steam room. Evening meal at partner hotel is excellent value - 6 Euros for a 5 course meal.

Well positioned for lifts to mountain top and station. 400 metres walk (mostly flat) to centre of town.

Only problem was having to pay for wifi.

Superb hotel. Stayed there 2 weeks ago and very impressed. The hotel has tyrolean charm but the rooms seem bigger than normal for Austria. The facilities are good, a small indoor pool and balconies tovemjoy the mountain views. The staff were excellent very pleasant and helpful. Thanks Manfred and team! We used the facilities of the sister hotel Schonruh across the road including spa and two pools. Even better took our evening meals there and the quality of the food was outstanding. Real attention to detail, quality and choice and plenty of it. 7 courses one night! Also was a free lunch buffet and cakes in the afternoon. Couldn't fault it. We arrived late first night after dinner and were given vouchers to get a meal in a choice of restetaunts in town. Only problem ? The weather which can't blame the hotel for! In conclusion; top class hotel. Go!
