“Wonderful week!”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 5 August 2013

After a long and tiring transfer at 6.30am we arrived at hotel irida, plakias and what turned out to be, after this bad start,a wonderful relaxing week at this lovely hotel and resort. Many thanks to Maria , Manolis & family for there hospitality .Hotel irida is well positioned in plakias a short walk from the taverners and beach and well stocked supermarkets. The hotel is small and quiet, well maintained and very clean with pool and outside eating area, our room had all we needed. There are lots of taverners in plakias all seem to be reasonably priced but the best meals we had were on our balcony prepared by Maria& Manolis. The Olympic rep Les was excellent, knowledgeable and enthusiastic, thanks Les! We must mention the wind that is a feature of plakias cool and refreshing but gusty and for us uncomfortable at times on the beach ,it would not put us off returning already planning.

Ideally positioned for both beach and town Irida is a well kept, small development of studios with picturesque gardens and setting. On arrival the friendly owner showed us to a clean room that includes the usual style bathroom, kitchen and balcony layout you’d expect in Greece. Safe and air conditioning were extra but in July we found that we didn’t need the cooler air. The room was cleaned every day and bed linen and towels changed every other day. There was a nice pool to the rear but we didn’t use it, preferring to take the five minute walk to the beach where a pair of sun beds and parasol would cost five Euros per day.
The beach has lots of space and is well kept by the man who collects the money. Each morning the sand is watered down, beds are straightened and any litter is collected. There is a constant breeze in Plakias but that only helps to make the hot weather more comfortable. The far end, away from the town, under the cliffs is without doubt the best part although this is also the nudist beach but there are no obligations and everyone was courteous and friendly. There are showers on the beach and a beach bar for your ice cold drink at the end of the afternoon. Worthy of note is an exceptional taverna called Paligremnos sat just behind the beach bar. It boasts a beautiful garden that provides lots of shade and the food and service were excellent.
Night life in Plakias is centred on the twenty or so restaurants that look over the bay. The standard is generally very good with a meal for two, including half a litre of house wine, about thirty Euros. Everyone has their own favourites but our best experience was in Atlantis where the “special” mussels were delicious. There are three bars playing “loudish” music all with first floor balconies where holidaymakers of all ages can enjoy a drink, look out over the bay and “people watch” until it’s time to make your way back to Irida. Ostraco bar was our favourite and we spent many hours looking over the bustling street watching the cars, bikes and people carefully avoid each other like a well choreographed dance.
Plakias is surrounded by a spectacular mountain range and there are well marked walks in each direction to other small resorts and beaches. There are numerous offices all selling the same trips including boat trips and guided gorge walks. If you don’t feel up to the ten mile walk through Samaria Gorge try the five mile guided river walk which ends at Preveli beach, a really pleasant day out, returning by boat, all under the professional supervision and interesting guide, Christian.
If you crave the bright lights of Malia, Plakias is not for you but if you want to relax on quiet beaches, enjoy good food each night with a glass or two wine then Irida is a choice that will not disappoint.

Fantastic apartments, immaculately clean, and the most comfortable beds we have ever had on holiday. Maria and Manolis are fabulous hosts, nothing is too much trouble for them. We booked with Olympic and the rep, Les, was very friendly. This was our first time in Plakias and we will certainly be returning to these apartments but next time I wont make the mistake of only booking for 1 week - it wasnt enough!

We stayed here in June 13, we stayed in Room 9, and had a truly fantastic time. The view was amazing, and the room was clean and comfortable with good facilities. We booked with Olympic and the rep visited the apartments most days and was very helpful with any queries we had. The pool area at the Irida is also great, its very kept with great views and all the other guests were kind and friendly so you didn't feel awkward when other people were by the pool. The owners, Maria and Manolis are lovely, they speak English well and were very kind and helpful when needed, which wasn't often.
When first booking we were slightly worried about the distance from the beach and town, but as we discovered when we got there, its a very direct 5 minutes walk to get to everything, and its location is perfect as it is very quite and peaceful.
This was a great holiday for us, and we are already planning on going back next year, we just wish we'd been there for 2 weeks not 1!

Room Tip: For a great view choose a high room!

On the recommendation of a good friend who I previously met on the Greek Island of Symi, I stayed at the Irida Plakias Studios for two weeks in May 2013.
It was all I had imagined and hoped it would be.
A fabulous setting in olive groves, with a few sheep in the field adjacent to the swimming pool!
Close enough to walk to and fro to the resort centre for shops and tavernas. And there are also marked paths to walk further afield to the beautiful coves and beaches around the headlands, or up into the villages in the hills above Plakias.
Maria and Manolis are welcoming hosts and nothing seems too much trouble for them when it comes to their guests. The rooms are cleaned daily, with comfortable beds, and brilliant white sheets and towels changed regularly.
I shall definitely be going back!

I stayed at Irida for 2 weeks May 2013 having booked with Olympic . This was my second stay and having been so impressed the first time I recommended Plakias and Irida to friends and | am sure they will be going back . The studios are in a peaceful setting with a 15 minute walk to the beaches and the Tavernas. I stayed in room 9 on the upper floor with spectacular views of the mountains and hillside villages. The studios and grounds are lovingly cared for by the delightful Maria and Manolis, Rooms are very comfortable and are cleaned every day, the pool area is immaculate with plenty of sunbeds and umbrellas .

Breakfast can be ordered by request on a day to day basis and is excellent value at 6 euros itin other bar snacks are also available.

Room Tip: Upper floors have the best view -room 6 is the best room

During our 2 week stay we stayed in room 3 and room 6. Both were spotless and very comfortable. Overlooking the olive groves with room 6 being on the higher floor so with the added advantage of a better view of the mountains and a glimpse of the sea.

Maria and Manolis, the owners, were really helpful and kind. We were really impressed with the high quality deep mattresses on the beds and lovely clean white sheets. This really helped you get a good nights sleep along with shutters that kept the morning light out so the room was nice and dark.We were having 10 hour sleeps! There was some road noise but I didn't find it too intrusive so I wouldn't let it put you off.

We enjoyed how the apartment was so convenient to all the attractions of Plakias.

Beaches
Turn right and first right down a track for 3 mins to get to the nicest end of Plakias beach. Turn right up the main road for 5mins then at the crossroads its only a 40 minute walk through the olive groves to Daminoni beach. Or head into town for good snorkelling on the beach in front of the beach football pitch - never used when we were there.

Shopping
5 mins walk down the main road brings you to a fantastic bakery and next door a supermarket and next door to that a fruit and vegetable store - all very conveniant.

Tavernas
You are spoilt for choice in Plakias and all very reasonable. We ate in 12 different ones and did not have a bad meal and we are hard to please. Highlites though were chicken souvlaki wrapped in bacon at Sifi's, Roast lamb in Manioko's up a side road, Beef stifado in Gioma, lamb chops in Apenema. All wonderful!

We really enjoyed our holiday and were lucky to have 14 days of sunshine. I would certainly recommend a holiday at The Irida - Efharisto!

Room Tip: Room 6 and 7 have good views
