“A friendly family run hotel”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 16 October 2013

This was our second stay at Sofia. Overall the stay was lovely.

To get them out of the way there were one or two minor niggles-the shower curtain was hideous-it sticks to you as you shower and, no matter how careful you are, it allows a certain amount of water onto the floor. Also a stand for at least one suitcase would have been welcome as there was plenty of room and it would have made life easier. During our last stay we recalled the beds being very comfortable though we took about 2 nights to get used to the very firm beds this time-so maybe they vary room to room.

Our room was compact but very well maintained and clean. We found the balcony, which had views to the mountains to be fine. The bathroom was modern and hot water was always plentiful. Sheets and towels were changed twice during our weeks stay and cleaning was to a good standard.

The staff at Sofia were all helpful and friendly. Breakfast was of a good standard for a 2 star hotel with fresh bread, fresh fruit, yoghurt, meats and cheese. Boiled eggs and frankfurter sausages, bacon and fried eggs and scrambled eggs were offered in rotation each day. Everything was promptly replenished and service was with a smile!

The location of the hotel is excellent. Just a 2 minute walk away from the be opposite, a supermarket and all other amenities just minutes away.

We would have no hesitation in recommending this hotel and will certainly revisit ourselves.

Room size and bathroom are ok. Clean and in good location in order to explore this part of Crete. Though balconies small enough.. Mr Kostas and the lady on the reception were helpful and friendly, nice people!!! Breakfast was not something special but fresh and good (except the orange juice which i cannot understand why it was not FRESH in Crete)!
No parking place also

We just had a 4 night stay at SOFIA which is a modern and very clean pension. The room was compact but quite large enough to be comfortable for a stay of that length. The furniture and fittings are of a decent standard but the balcony was somewhat tight to say the least. Our room overlooking on the front was little noisy at times.

Breakfast, either indoors or in the courtyard, was very nice. The amount of food on show was never enormous but once it run out it was always replaced on the spot.

The staff were all helpful. I would certainly stay there again.

They make you feel at home without theatricality. They don´t need that because everything is so profesionally done that you are not going to feel you are in a hotel. Just get ready for the nice breakfast and go to the beautiful beach in Plakias. The rest is history.

Room Tip: The suites are fabulous.

This is a small modern family-run hotel just off the main strip in beautiful Plakias.

The building itself is a bit bland but this is more than made up for by the friendly staff, excellent service, pristine clean rooms, comfortable beds and delicious breakfast. To top it off there is super fast free wifi in the reception area.

Not many rooms have a sea view so if you're looking for amazing views this isn't the place for you. But as a comfortable retreat after a hard days bird watching / gorge walking / archeological digging / beach lounging this place is perfect.

We had a week at the Sofia with Olympic Holidays and have to say that it is a modern very clean and bright 2 star pension. The rooms were compact but quite large enough to be comfortable for a stay of that length. The furniture and fittings are of a decent standard but the balcony was somewhat tight to say the least. Our room overlooking the garden to the rear was nice and quiet but I imagine those on the front could be a little noisy at times as others have mentioned.

Breakfast, either indoors or in the courtyard, filled an early morning hole and was very nice without being anything to write home about. The amount of food on show was never enormous but once it ran out it was always replenished promptly.

The staff were all helpful partlicularly the English lady who seemed to do the 'morning shift'. I would certainly stay there again although would probably seek somewhere on the beach road first next time in Plakias in order to get a view of the sea.

A clean, modern B&B place, a bit difficult to find (a side street off the western part of Plakias' main street), without private parking (no elevator either).
Our room was rather on the smallish side, the shower stall was primitive, with a curtain that clings to the body when showering... Air-conditioning is extra (5 Euros/day), which is somewhat surprising considering the climate.
Our room was quiet, but there are a number of bars/night places in the immediate neighborhood which tend to be rather noisy at night: beware !
Our stay was very windy (not a rare occurrence it seems), which made breakfast in the courtyard somewhat less than pleasant (there are also some tables indoors, however). Breakfast (buffet) was typical for Crete.
The staff was very friendly and provided useful information about the surrounding area.
