We had such a wonderful and memorable stay at La Sapienza hotel last October that we are already planning another trip back in June this year.

The Hotel apartments are spacious and airy each with a balcony or terrace with wonderful views. This is the perfect place to end the day by sipping a glass of wine and watching the hypnotic sunsets over the turquoise sea and Medieval Venetian fortress.

The apartments are spotlessly clean with air conditioning, a small kitchenette; satellite TV and a very good internet connection which is free to guests.

The staff at the hotel are friendly and welcoming and the owner of the hotel George is very hospitable and always available if you need recommendations on which beach or restaurant to go.

The rooms are cleaned every day and towels and bed linen changed every three days, Felicita (I’m not sure if that is how you spell her name )the lady who deals with the house keeping attended to our every need and went beyond what was expected by even bringing in our washing one day when we were out and it started to rain.

The hotel has a large pool with views over the sea, islands and fortress, there were plenty of sun loungers and umbrellas and a small bar area.

La Sapienza l is ideally situated on the outskirts of the village so it is very peaceful and there is plenty of parking for guests. The hotel is within walking distance to the beach (between 5 – 10 minutes) and to the village (15 – 20 minutes). We did hire a car and we would recommend you do so if you want to explore the other nearby towns and beaches.
.
Methoni is a sleepy Greek seaside town with permanent residents all year round. This area has not sold out to mass tourism and the local people are very friendly. In the town there are plenty of Tavernas cafés and bars and most have free WiFi. The food you find in the tavernas is traditional and delicious and there are plenty to choose from.
.
A Thing you really must do during your stay is to visit the Venetian fortress, we spent a wonderful morning exploring all the nooks and crannies of this vast Venetian ruin set on the headland.

Methoni is just a five minute drive to the lively village of Finnikounda so if you’re looking for a bit of nightlife this place is ideal and there are many beautiful beaches between Methoni and Finnikounda.

In the other direction you can drive to the pretty town of Pilos and then it’s not too far to drive to the amazing beach of Voidakilia.

Our purpose for this break was to relax and explore a little, during October the weather was ideal for this we had some cloudy days which is when we explored and on the sunny days we went to the beach or sat by the pool.

I first visited Methoni 23 years ago and I have to say I was delighted to see it had not changed that much since then; of course hotel La Sapienza is certainly a well appreciated addition and we can’t wait to go back.
