Could not be better!
When was the last time you did a kayaking trip where after the first day of paddling the guide asks you to come over and smell the special olive oil he brought for the trip? Perhaps a detail, but it is such attention that characterises Alex when it comes to his determination to bring you an amazing experience.
We identified Pan Expeditions on the internet as perhaps the only operator in Greece who would guarantee a tour even if he had (only) two participants. That was a great help for our planning.
Initially we booked for the weeklong expedition around Hydra island. Several days before the trip, Alex contacted us to signal that the weather forecast was exceptionally windy for the time of year and that it was likely the trip could not continue as planned. He offered either a full refund or to draft an alternative proposal. But only if he could come up with a plan that would be attractive enough for himself to wholeheartedly recommend. Clearly we wanted to paddle and Alex came up with a new 4-day proposal in a region where the wind conditions would not be limiting.
It turned out great!
We met at the quay in Nafplio with everything organised and soon enough we were on our way towards the beautiful castle in the bay. Alex knows these surroundings very well and offered lots of interesting background and history.
As we paddled south over the next days we passed by islands, cliffs and a couple of villages. Always on the warm, turquoise sea with varied vegetation on the shore. We picnicked
in small coves, camped under a full moon on “private” beaches and enjoyed the great food that Alex prepared. Some more sea urchin egg pasta anyone?
On the second day we saw several large sea turtles reasonably close, some curiously patrolling along our campsite.
It’s hard to describe how great such a multi-day kayaking expedition is. We have done quite a few in places like Alaska, Belize and Norway. This rates among the very best!
We can only give Alex a perfect recommendation for his super friendly attitude, concern for nature (he hates plastic left on the beach by others and makes an effort to clean up) and just being a great guy to paddle with.
Everything from food to safety to gear was of top quality.
After 82 km of paddling we reluctantly pulled the kayak up the shore for unloading and being brought back to our starting point in Nafplio.
If you plan to go paddling in Greece, check with Alex and Pan expeditions!
