On arrival there was a sign at reception that said "Reception closed. Look for staff in bar" After a bit of a look we found someone who didn't know what she was doing. In between answering the phone she gave us some keys and said "the rooms are through there". We had to walk up 20 stairs (no lift) and along a corridor to find the rooms. The stairs were difficult for my 75 year old mother. The rooms were nicely decorated, but the bathrooms were not clean and we we could not turn off the very hot radiators, not even during the night. Also the TV's were old and only had two channels (one in English and one in Gaelic) and no remote control. Breakfast was served in the bar, and although was nicely cooked there was no choice. We were told "You want full breakfast, yes" by someone without a good command of English. There were no cereals, yoghurts, etc. The hotel has a snooker/pool bar which was always empty, a bar where food was served, a nice riverside restaurant that was always closed and a small supermarket attached. It seems that the new owner is trying to do too much at once and I feel he needs to work at one thing only. In the village, many people said we would have been better going to a B&B. I think they were right!
