Had a meal at Las Olas some years ago and gave it another try with my husband. It is a more traditional Spanish restaurant and may not look as appealing as some of the new restaurants that have cropped up around the bay which are more up to the minute in terms of decor. However, you should not be deceived by how a place looks as several of the fancy restaurants around the port do not live up to the hype.

We both chose calamari romana to share as a starter which were delicious - not rubbery but tasty with fabulous batter and served with aioli. Next we chose sole, which were enormous and very well cooked and were served with vegetables and boulangere potatoes for a very modest price compared to some menus we had looked at elsewhere.

Another table was occupied by a lady who clearly enjoyed her tuna salad and a crowd of cyclists ordered a marvellous looking fish paella at another.

It is a traditional restaurant that gets it right.

The interior of the restaurant was spotless as were the WC's. Not something I normally harp on about but it makes a change to use a clean loo

We chose this restaurant, because of its great position away from the beach crowds, it has superb views across the bay, after taking the very highly recommend train/tram trip into Soller, then the tram into the port, which is really lovely and definitely worth a visit. We chose the menu of the day and both had the salmon salad starters, which was an excellent salad, with sadly very mediocre smoked salmon, but the salad was divine and the freshly baked bread served with it was crispy, delicious and light. I had the mussels, served in a tomatoe sauce, very nice and my husband the lamb, beautifully slow cooked, but he said spoilt with a sausagy type of stuffing and served with a very nice tasty ratatoille, we even shared a dessert, included in the 16 euro price, decadent almond ice cream and a tart, all in all a lovely meal and recommended

Wanting to have a really good paella we visited this restaurant on the recommendation of staff at the Es Port hotel. We were not disappointed the quality of the food and wine were very good as was the service. Like a lot of restaurants here it has great views across the bay and while we chose to eat outside the indoor facilities looked very comfortable.

The price of the paella was, I think, 30 euro's for two and the wine was so good I can't remember the price but I always have the vino de la casa.

It's a number of years since we visited the Las Olas restaurant in Port Soller and time could have changed our perception, but we don't think so. The restaurant is still perfectly placed on the first line of the bay,it looks very inviting, clean and attractive and seems to be the ideal place to eat. Appearances can be deceptive however.

Whilst in times gone by the food was always excellent our recent meal was far from that description. The lamb chops were small and fatty and the preparation of the chops and the accompanying vegetables left a lot to be desired. The saving grace for the meal was the dessert. Both my wife and I chose Almond Cake with ice cream and it was prepared and served very nicely.

It's a pity when a good memory of past glories is damaged and it wouldn't take a lot to restore Las Olas to its premier position. It just requires better quality food prepared with a lighter hand.

This restaurant occupies a lovely seafront position in Port de Soller. We had the Menu del Dia which, at Euro16.80, is a litlle dearer than you can pay in other resorts but was pleasantly and efficiently served and overall we considered it good value with a choice of 3 items on each course.
