We stayed in the hotel for 4 nights and enjoyed every moment we spent there, from the views of Soller, the proximity to the town square to the great breakfast buffet; but most of all what differentiates this hotel was the staff. From day 1 we were received with a friendly and helpful attitude; when we checked in and noticed that the room had an issue with the air conditioner they immediately mentioned they'd report it to the technician and offered to move us to a different (better?) room. After a couple of days the breakfast staff had learned that I liked to get a cup of ice to fill a water bottle, and would bring it over without even asking (attention to details).

Parking is tight, but they took care of moving the car to the back lock when necessary.

The tram (tranvia) to the Port of Soller is right next to the hotel. The town square is about a block away, with a public market and a couple of bars/restaurants along the way.

If/when I go back to Soller, there's no doubt I'll stay here again.

We have just returned from a week at the Gran Hotel Soller. Everyone in the hotel was lovely and upon arrival we were upgraded free of charge to a suite.

The hotel need a bit of upgrading in certain areas and a lick of paint but overall we thoroughly enjoyed out stay!

Whatever you do don't order the eggs in the morning. We ordered poached, omelette, and fried on separate morning and all took over 20 minutes to arrive. This was a common thing as all guests experienced the same.

The lunch menu is a good deal at 10 euro's a head for a 3 course meal...

We will probably return for a couple of nights the next time we visit Majorca.

The hotel is superbly located and very clean and presentable but it is a touch dated with a man playing the piano etc. that said it is very calm compared with other places in the area and a great place to stop for afternoon tea.

For me the two most important things about a holiday hotel are location and sleep quality. The Gran Hotel scores top points on both these areas. It is pretty much in the centre of the lovely town, with the main square and cathedral just round the corner where there are great bars, shops and restaurants. The station is just up the road where you get the train for the beautiful journey through the mountains to Palma or the little old tram down to Soller Port, both great trips to do during your stay. The hotel arranged a hire car for us one day, with the car being delivered to and picked up from the hotel, which was great.

Meals are served in the sunny dining room/conservatory. We only ate there one evening as we like to try lots of places, but the food was excellent. There were only two choices for the first two courses and only one for dessert, but our meal was first class, as was the paella we had there for lunch on our last day. The breakfast buffet is good, with the option of cooked food as well if that is what you want. The dining room staff are charming, really helpful and amazingly multi-lingual.

Our room and bathroom were large and kept beautifully clean. There was plenty of room to unpack everything and the room was quiet, with a large and comfortable bed - it's not often I find hotel beds comfortable! There was excellent free Wi-Fi. The indoor pool was terrific and the top floor outdoor pool looked lovely but it was too cold to use at the moment.

There was a separate sitting area in our room with virtually no natural light, making it rather dingy. We didn't use it except to store our cases. The booklet about the hotel in the room was inaccurate in many ways, such as saying that breakfast was served on the fourth floor when it was on the ground, or first, floor, and giving very wrong details about the TV channels available. We actually couldn't get the TV to change from the local channel 1 at first, but this was fixed on day 2. The booklet also said that you could adjust the temperature in the room to whatever you wanted, and although there was what looked like a thermostat there - two in fact in different sections - turning it down and down didn't make any difference, leading to two uncomfortably hot nights. On enquiring at last about this we found out that the temperature is in fact controlled centrally and "we'll turn it down a bit". So surely this doesn't meant there is no A/C? In a five star hotel in Majorca? Perhaps they just hadn't switched it on yet. Anyway, we left the balcony door open at night after that and it was better as it was still quite chilly outside at night. The mosquitos came in though...

There was no A/C in the gym either, meaning you couldn't really use it. It also took ages to find out how to turn the lights on there - you have to find what looks like a mains control panel outside in the corridor. It doesn't seem as though they really want you to use the gym! Apparently Spanish hotels are graded on the facilities they have rather than how good or usable they are, hence the five star rating which I tend to agree with others here is probably a bit high.

But overall it was a lovely holiday and a great hotel that I would certainly recommend. The niggles are because it doesn't seem to hit the five star rating.

I premise that we were not guests of the hotel, but we were around Soller and we decided to have lunch there. Unfortunately we realized that we had forgotten our wallet at the hotel where we were staying, in Llucmajor . We had only 30 euro and passing we saw at the entrance of the hotel's restaurant a proposed a menu of 10 euro per person. We walked in and sitting down reading the menu we saw that the paella was 18 euro. So we took one paella and one beer (3.50 euro) .
After a long wait the paella arrived and was okay but then the surprise was the bill : € 39.50!
And yes! The Paella was 18 Euros, but pro person !
Result we lacked the money.
We asked the waiter how we could do and told us to talk to the owner, who in a very rudely manner told us only "you have to pay." He took us to the reception and in Spanish told the lady at the reception (a very nice person instead) "you will not let them go without having first paid". Incredible! Treated almost like thieves! Of course I said it was our intention to pay, so I called my hotel and they payed for us.
I mean, really disappointed by such rude behavior .
There are ways and means. It 'clear that we would have paid, even though the menu did not specify that the price of EUR 18 was intended per person.
We traveled, slept and eaten in many places in different parts of the world, but there was a story that ever happened!
I'm sorry but it was a really bad experience.

Maybe not quite 5 star, but very comfortable, and stylish with its collection of modern art, and the perfect base for exploring the tramuntana. (Soller itself is a delight). My only criticism of the hotel was that when we were there the buffet breakfast was decidedly sparse, but I can't say it spoiled our stay. I notice that for what it is, the hotel is good value most of the time.
