We spent just one night here in a huge bedroom with vast double bed, tastefully furnished with smart hotel type touches and good bathroom. Rather surprisingly not great sound insulation, as we could quite clearly bathroom of bedroom next door (and our neighbours rose early!). Restaurant was an impressive hall, but food a bit on the heavy side - these days in summer we want nice salads! Drink on the terrace was wonderful with amazing views - we sat reading there very happily until the sun was getting low and dinner called. For breakfast there was a good array of most things you could think of with plenty of fresh fruit. A definite treat!

Room Tip: Our room was opposite a working quarry, which I guess could be noisy (we were there at a weekend) and was certainly ugly!

First time to Spain and it doesn't get much better than starting off with a parador stay. The castle comes into view from a distance off which really heightens the sense of arrival. Cardona has many bastions and a tall keep so there's a great sense of being in a castle, rather than a hotel. Our room was well equipped, bath and shower, excellent wifi and a canopy bed. Arriving without our luggage, the extra bathroom amenities were appreciated. Dinner and breakfast was served in the atmospheric old refectory and was of a hi standard. We enjoyed the shared plate of Iberico ham at dinner was such a highlight we had it both nights.

Some reviewers have commented on the nearby salt works. It is large and obvious however it's also one of the main reasons this castle exists so view it in its historical context perhaps!

Would return at the first opportunity!

Everyone in my family fell in love with this hotel, even my (somewhat) jaded 13 year old son. It really is a renovated castle and we felt that in every room, corridor and courtyard. When not relaxing in our cool (thanks to the tile floors and thick castle walls) rooms we climbed the tower and swarmed the battlements, then cooled off in the cafe with a cool drink. The breakfast was sumptuous and the staff was gracious.
One pleasant surprise: all the hotel info on the internet talks about the fancy dining room, but does not mention that the much less formal cafe serves a variety of salads, sandwiches and snacks which were a much better fit for our family.
