“Stay in a small town”
Reviewed 25 September 2013

Hotel is situated in the old quarter of the town. There are not many hotels in Cardona. Small hotel in a small place. Safe & centrally located, I could roam around and find my ways on my own. The rooms are small and not very fancy.

Main problem came with the language. While checking in there was a lady who could speak broken English, after that I had to manage with sign language. The hotel menu card was also in Catalan, so had to order food by hit & trial method but whatever I ate the food was very delicious. Very little choice for breakfast.
Since I couldn't understand much, I had to go for the set menu.

We came thru here on a whim, wanting to check out the castle. The hotel was better than expected, the restaurant was pretty nice too. For such a small town, we were pleasantly surprised. I'd stay here again if I was in the region.

A lovely hotel found in the old quarter of the town. The rooms are well furnished and the staff are unbelievably helpful. For service this is one of the best three stars hotels i have stayed in. It deserves its three stars, but if I had the choice I would have it three and a half stars. I give this hotel the top rating for a hotel in its class. It is a little off the beaten track, but well worth the stay. My only criticism, as usual in Spain, the Internet you have to go to the first floor or the fourth to get it. Once again it would be worth paying a little more to get the internet in each room.

Well, first of all finding the hotel is a nightmare. You follow the signs into the village, all good, and then they just disappear. What happens is that you are supposed to stop in a busy road with double yellow lines and call the hotel so that someone can come down and open their garage for you, which takes a good few minutes, on the other side of the hotel than the actual main door. When I got help from a villager and ran up to the hotel while my husband was parked illegally, the girl in reception said "Well, it happens all the time". Well, perhaps you should improve your instructions about how to get to your hotel???
The interior of the entire hotel is nice and painted in all the "in" colours, but the room is small. I dread to think what size the standard rooms are. There were no dressing gowns (as promised on website), what they call a "balcon"(balcony, as promised on website) is a ledge, there are blankets instead of duvets and one large towel and one small towel for a Superior room for a couple. I know I need one towel to dry myself and one to wrap around my head to dry the hair...Or are we supposed to argue about who gets the large towel and who gets the small one?
OK, this is due to myself not doing my Google Earth research (but should I have to?), but when it says on the website "fantastic view over the mountains", I think I am going to see mountains, not an old salt mine on the side of a pine-forested hill. There are amazing mountain views around this place, this hotel just fails to mention that the amazing mountain views in its own particular case is focused on a reddish scar in a hill.
When we rang reception and asked about dressing gowns and if there was a nicer room, the answer was "no" and the demeanour of the girl in reception was perceptibly more chilly when we came down, which I REALLY don't appreciate. Saying that the rest of the staff was lovely in every way. We didn't bother asking for more towels or mentioning that the plug in the sink was broken so it didn't hold water - it didn't seem worth it. The cleaning was great when we got there, spotless almost, but for the second night basically the bed had been made, with the same sheets, and that was it. No cleaning of anything else whatsoever, including bathroom.
I think that for where they are and what they offer this place is WAY overpriced - someone's spent a lot of money on decoration but there is no attention to detail and the actual experience of someone staying there.
Additional minor moans: the rooms are not soundproofed so if your hiking-enthusiast neighbours are leaving at 6.30 am, you are going to know about it.
No fridge.
Telly didn't work at all until I got mad and wiggled a few cables around - really small thing but when I'm paying more than 115 Euros a night, I would like these things to just WORK.

We statyed for 2 nights in Feb 2013. We had a superior room . Hotel is centrally located right on the quiet main street. Garage parking is available and conveninet. Room spacious , clean and in good order. Excellent little bar and top floor residents lounge with Wi Fi and balcony. Staff very helpful and hard working. Prices very reasonable. Very good value for money. We would stay again. Thank you. Keith & Jennie

Room Tip: Try a superior room with balcony with countryside views

Very comfortable hotel, excellent service they went out of their way to ensure there was somewhere to eat. (Hotel restaurant was closed for holiday). Rooms are very comfortable and spotlessly clean.Comfortable sitting room on 4th floor. Would be great for sitting out and having a pre dinner drink. Ideal place to base your self for a few days.
All in all a very enjoyable stay and very good value.

Room Tip: Have a room looking over valley - as high as possible. There is car parking for a small charge
