My wife and I stayed here for one night on our trip from the north of Galicia to Northern Portugal. The hotel is part of a luxury chain of Spanish hotels called Paradores which are usually located in a historic buildings such as a monasteries or castles. In the case of the Parador de Baiona, the hotel is located in what once was an fort built to protect the port of Baiona from seafaring enemies and pirates. It has high walls and turrets overlooking the Bay of Baiona and the hotel itself is contained in a lovely renovated building at the center of the fort giving one magnificent setting for stay.
We had a good experience at the Parador de Baiona. We love Galician food and the town of Baiona has some fantastic restaurants. The room we stayed in was ample although it overlooked the inner courtyard with a fountain whose sound was pleasant to wake up to in the morning. The breakfast was complete and we enjoyed it sitting on the terrace of the hotel on a sunny morning. They have a huge pool which we enjoyed that is perfect for swimming long laps. The most spectacular feature of the hotel is its location and the amazing views this affords the guest overlooking the Bay of Baoina from the high ramparts of the old fort. However, in our case, the thing that I want to point out about the hotel is the good service they gave us when both the hotel and we made a mistake. We left our bags at the hotel the day we checked out to go to lunch. Upon our returned, the bellhop brought out our bags and I loaded up the car. We then left for a leisurely drive down the coast to the North of Portugal. When we arrived at our destination 3 hours later, the hotel called and told us that we had forgotten a piece of our baggage, a hanging bag which contained a number of expensive articles of clothing. The bellhop had forgotten to bring me our 4th piece of luggage and I failed to recognize that I was missing the bag. They initially said that I had to drive back and pick it up but then the bellhop called us and apologized for not bringing us all of our luggage. Apparently the hanging bag was not stored with other luggage and they changed bell hops and the new one was unaware that the hanging bag was part of our belongings. The Parador agreed to send it to us via a special courier service at their cost to the hotel we were staying at in Portugal. The Parador de Baiona went the extra mile and took care of us. I appreciate their professionalism and response to what an oversight on both of our parts. I am really grateful that the Parador wasn’t difficult with me and that I didn’t have to drive 3 hours back to Baiona to pick up our hanging bag. This allowed us to continue with the rest of our vacation without worrying about our belongings. Thank you Parador de Baiona! We will be back.
P.S. I suggest that one spend the extra money and book a room with a view overlooking the Bay of Baiona. I think that it is worth it. I saw a few rooms overlooking the bay and the view is impressive.
