“Impressive looking hotel in town square”
Reviewed 14 October 2013

Well appointed rooms, plenty of space. Dripping with history.

Restaurant was disappointing - low on ambiance considering the impressive setting. Veal chop quite tough (difficult to cut and chew) - complaint to waitress ignored. Breakfast not particularly good value (16 euros each).

So I have mixed feelings about this place. First of all the place is noisy due to very old wooden doors (that are slammed by everyone) and floors (that creak at every move).

On the other hand we had a nice corner room which was really spacious.

We ordered also food from the room service. There is no room service menu in the room. So you either have to go to reception or to the restaurant to look at the restaurant menu. That's not what room service is. However we couldn't find anything we liked so we asked if they had something with chicken. They were very flexible and offered to cook a chicken steak. The food that we got then delivered to the room was delicious!

The hotel has limited underground parking for 12EUR/day. You should reserve because it can be hard to find parking around the hotel as it is literally in the middle of the city.

The breakfast was poor (like everywhere else in Spain). So they ask you to pay 16 EUR for it which is not right for what they offer.

We were in Vilalba for the third time. It is a beautiful Parador, in the midst of a town suffering deeply from the recession. Like all the Galician Paradors, they had the ghastly cafeteria style “Cocina de Enxebre” as in Pontevedra. The menu was very similar: we did not eat in the parador. It was so sad - the lovely dining room used only for breakfast and the entire bar and terrace closed down, except at weekends, in favour of a nasty little bar / cafeteria in the basement of the tower. The personnel were extremely friendly, especially Señora Laura Vérez at Reception, who pointed out some wonderful expeditions we could make (to the Beach of the Cathedrals in Ribadeo, for instance) and who helped me immensely with my Spanish between smiling at guests and making them feel welcome and all the other duties of a head receptionist. If only the proper restaurant and terrace bar could be restored, this would be a lovely Parador again.

Room Tip: There are super rooms in the Tower at extra expense, but, as always in Paradors, all the rooms are j...

Vilalba is a small town, approximately one hour's car journey from the beautiful beaches of the Rias Altas in places such as Ribadeo and Ortiguera We stayed at the Parador Vilalba for four nights.. Service was excellent. All staff were personable and helpful, particularly the gentlemen at the reception desk. One guy came out of the hotel with us into the square to check that we were legally parked and to ensure that we wouldn't get a ticket. The other gentleman gave good advice on places to visit and even warned us against using a precarious route to St Andreas De Teixedo.
Our room was spacious and clean with old fashioned, but quaint, decor. Light sleepers should note the church bells in the same square as the hotel can be an issue. My husband heard nothing. I wasn't quite as fortunate.
Accommodation cost was reasonable but the restaurant was a little pricey for what was on offer.
The old tower adjacent to the hotel is what makes it noteworthy. The Parador is a popular spot for local family weddings. It is also set in a beautiful old square that makes you feel you've travelled back in time.. if you are passing through Vilalba, The Parador is the obvious place to stay and it is not as costly as other Parador hotels.
What I liked most was the friendly receptionists and what I liked least was the nocturnal bell ringing.

Room Tip: Book a room that is not facing into the square. The view is good but the church bells might disrupt...

A fairly large structure, right in the middle of town. We really just passed through this spot on our way to a Coruna. Desk clerk was really helpful with driving tips and routes. When he told me he found driving into a Coruna challenging, I thought…this will be interesting. But his directions were perfect and actually not at all a difficult drive. The joy of driving in Europe is how everything is so well marked and the drivers are polite…if you put your turn signal on, they let you in, which is not the case where I live in US!

Staff was really helpful. The room we were assigned smelled terribly of smoke. We asked to be moved and they put us in a larger room that did not smell for the same price. Really appreciate the wonderful accommodation of our request.

Had fantastic dinner of roasted vegetables in the hotel restaurant.

Room Tip: We tucked into one of the little cafes in town for lunch the day we arrived, I had some of the best...

I stayed here with my wife and 4 year old son ,we thought being a Parador it would be to expensive but we were pleasantly surprised. At 60 euros for the 3 of us a bargin breakfast was extra although we did not try it we did eat in the restaurant in the evening. The meal was very good although pricey, we liked the hotel so much we stayed an extra night. The room was huge and well appointed with a very nice en suite, the staff very helpful and could not do enough to help us. We would definitely recommend this to anyone staying in the area

The room was all that we expected it to be, but we made the mistake of having our evening meal here. Although there were only 2 other diners when we went in, the waitress preferred to spend her time chatting to various other people who wandered in and out. The result was that our meal (which cost almost as much as the room) and would have been rather unappetising when hot, was cold.
