“Did not live live up to expectations”

I like to travel and i like the finer things in life as i work hard and don't mind spending money for me and my wife to have fantastic trips.

What i don't like is feeling short changed after any trip and this is exactly how i feel after returning from a week here.

This villa as basis furnishing and is so noisy being next to the main road. The fact that the bathroom is open aired only amplifies the noise of passing trucks and endless horn blowing.

The villa is also badly built with gaps in every window and door. Again, a problem for noise but also allows the salty air in which i'm afraid to say is corroding the house away (owner - you need to get a handle on this). I suspect this is why the electricity kept on tripping.

There is also an issue with the night manager who completely freaked us out after one night we caught him huddled under the outside table.

This was our first time to Sri Lanka and did have a great time but this place let us right down and is so over priced and left us feeling ripped off.

Hi guys,

Thanks for taking the time to give us feedback on the house. Feedback is always appreciated, in whatever form it takes.

In regard to the road noise, all of the beach houses located along the Southern coast are near local coastal roads; our house is actually one of the quieter ones, with the majority of guests sleeping soundly listening to the sound of the ocean. In a country like Sri Lanka, most people that want absolute silence opt for inland accommodation on large estates, not beachfront.

We are very sorry that you experienced electrical issues and salty air coming into the house - we can sympathise with your frustration. However, it is necessary to point out that Sri Lanka has just experienced horrific landslides and record level torrential rain, other areas nearby even experienced flooding. It is very difficult to prevent any water damage during these conditions and we have been very lucky to just have a few minor electrical issues.

In terms of your other comments, the photos on our page show exactly what is in the house. The rate that we charge is very reasonable for an entire house on the beach, with staff, security and wifi and breakfast every day.
Sri Lanka is a fascinating, untouched and quirky place - but sometimes not for everyone. We hope that you will consider coming back outside of monsoon season to experience Sri Lanka at its most beautiful.

We stayed here as a family of 4 for one week after Easter, children aged 11 and 7. We had a fantastic week in a modern, stylish villa situated on an idyllic stretch of beach. The house is well designed, 2 bedrooms with good en-suites and a large communal kitchen/living area. The garden is well maintained and the pool looks bigger than the internet photos. We had a couple of minor quibbles on arrival but Renee, one of the owners, quickly visited and resolved with no fuss. The villa is in easy reach of Galle, Unawatuna and Talpe. Ranjan provides delicious breakfasts, cooked us a lovely beach BBQ one evening and is generally on hand if you need any advice. Then Ram ensures the villa remains secure in the evening and during the night. We thoroughly relaxed for our entire week, spending most days on the beach at our favourite beach bar at Wijaya, a 10 minute walk down the beach, and eating out at different nearby restaurants in the evenings - a great place from which to explore one of our fantastic part of Sri Lanka!

“Comfort. Turtles. Beach!”

This was my first trip to Sri Lanka but it won't be my last. I'm not normally into beach holidays, but my stay at Salt Beach House was idyllic.

The house is comfortably furnished, and the beds are particularly good - I slept long and deep. The beach is literally at the back door and you may spot turtles popping their heads up for air now and then. Or go for a swim and you may almost run into one, like I did.

It's tempting to laze the days away in the backyard or in the water, but it's worth visiting the nearby fort, and the sea turtle hatchery.

Galle is a couple hours south of Colombo, but airport transfers are easy to arrange and the drive goes fairly quickly, particularly if you stop for a fresh coconut to break up the trip.

“Stunning house, shame about the noisy road”
Reviewed 14 February 2016 for a stay in January 2016

The positives:
Stunning house with everything we needed
Incredible location right on the beach
Turtles popping their heads up in the sea in front of the house!
The loveliest evening security guard, Rathnapala
Making a BBQ on the beach with coconut shells Ramjan collected for us!
House manager Rasika helping us buy incredible fresh fish & fruit!

The negatives:
The house was on a really noisy road & wasn't well insulated so you can hear the traffic and the beeping lorries from 5am - take your earplugs!

“Loved it!”
Reviewed 12 February 2016 for a stay in February 2016

Thank you so much for a wonderful stay. We arrived over the Chinese New Year and after a rocky drive there and car sick kids, we settled into the home like it was our own. The kids loved having a front yard (we currently live in Malaysia on the 30th floor) and did not leave the pool or beach in front. beautiful rooms, Ranjan was great and it was just so nice to come home to after a day of sight seeing. The only down side was 2 days we were without WIFI and power overnight so rooms got hot without air con and the water supply was off - but life is short, and the view out the front was more important than the above. So thankyou!

Hi guys, glad to hear you had a fantastic holiday at the house. Thanks for the lovely review, we enjoyed having you stay!
The beauty of Sri Lanka is in it's simple way of life and old world charm, at times that can unfortunately mean the odd district wide powercut. These usually only last a few hours so we are really sorry to hear that that you had an unusually long one. We hope to welcome you back to the house in the not so distant future! Thanks for staying with us.
