Reviewed 20 August 2012

We spent three nights in this hotel while visiting Pamplona (San Firmin!), Ujue, Bardenas Reales, Olite itself... and found it a perfect hub for visiting the south part of Navarra. It is located at the outskirts of Olite in a suburbian area, though we did not find this to be negative as there was no noise or disturbance from the streets or surroundings. There's no minibar in the rooms. We got the rooms on the ground floor and would suggest asking rooms on the upper floors to avoid some noise of the hall and other common areas in this rather small hotel. Reception was very fine with a nice guy who helped us in multiple languages. Breakfast is served downstairs and is not en buffet but served at the table which, in combination with the fact that the lady in charge was rather cold, was the least part of our experience in this hotel. The swimming pool is small but fine enough after a day of visits in this marvellous region.

El Juglar had its work cut out since we had just come here from the treat of staying in Marques de Riscal - so it was always going to be a tough comparison. The hotel does look nice from the outside though and our room had a nice little balcony sitting area, but there was little else to make me treat it than more than a place to sleep.
The decor is rather "traditional" in the style of the old Spanish town. To some this may be charming but to me it seemed overly done and overly grand - so for example our room was quite small but still had a 4 poster bed in it. Likewise the TV was on a wooden pillar and various other things had overly elaborate and "olde" touches. For me it didn't work but I suppose at least it was consistent.
More of a problem with the bed was that the mattress was also pretty "olde" and each spring was evident and squeaky.
Wifi is free (the hotel has two networks, one for each floor) but on check-in we were told that it was temperamental. They were correct and for the 2 nights I never got it to connect to either one and, although I appreciate free internet, it is even nicer when it actually works.
Per night we paid around £115, which ws too much for where we were - it is a small town and it is just a decent hotel that offers a bed and a room, so I'm not sure where it gets its rates from. I have stayed in much cheaper and nicer hotels and I must admit I was surprised that this was one of my more expensive hotels in our trip (particularly since it was the least of the 4 we stayed in around the region)
Decent hotel though, few minute walk from the middle of the town, but nothing more than just solidly decent.

The staff is very friendly. Located at the entrance of Olite and yet no noise. It has beautiful rooms with exquisite decoration and a great garden to take a local wine (Ochoa Tempranillo is recommended) as the sun warms you in winter.

Room Tip: I was for three times, and everytine in a diffrent room. Obviously the Junior-suite is the most expe...

A friendly welcome at this hotel, on the road going north out of the town, in a fairly new building which looks from the outside and is furnished throughout in an historic style in keeping with the rest of the town. The rooms are all individual, spacious and equipped to a very high standard. The en-suite bathroom was modern and attractive, with walk in shower. Some rooms have small balconies looking over to the town. We rang in advance to speak to the owner Christian. Also communicated by email. We had a large room and he put 2 extra “supplementary” beds in the room – like camp beds but much more comfortable. Both our teenage children had good sleep on them and it as certainly cheaper than booking 2 rooms. The hotel has a small pool but it’s in the front garden near the road, and it will need to be a pretty hot day for you to want to use the pool. It’s 10 minutes walk to town, which has medieval charm and one of the best castles you will ever visit – like a Disney or fairy tale castle! Also, within walking distance of the hotel on the road leading north are a handful of very impressive Bodegas. We tried “Piedmonte” as they had a good shop, and a helpful assistant let us try lots of wines before we decided on what to buy.

First family trip to Europe with no set plans. Hated Pamplona so headed back to Olite. Hotel El Juglar is immaculate. Beautiful landscape/outdoor pool. Accommodating. Only had 1 queen bed available but arranged 2 fold out beds. 1 night 145 Euro. Enjoyed eating breakfast on the balcony. Lovely place!
