Terrific position, good food in a choice of restaurants, relaxed family atmosphere. Booked for self and friends who each have very different requirement from a hotel so life is always a compromise! There have been problems in this area on previous occasions!! However, this hotel somehow managed to cater more than adequately for the expectations of all - a rare achievement.

Stayed here to attend a wedding at the Inn on the Lake next door. Our room looked out over the lake and was fairly good though no better than hotels we stay in at more reasonable prices. Our daughter and partner's room with baby was a bit tired though the bathroom was very nice. Breakfast was just ok, service good. Having paid up front for both rooms and asked, at booking, for a cot in one room we were very disappointed when told later our daughter had been charged £10 extra for a travel cot, we could easily have brought our own.

I stayed at this hotel on 4th May as my sister was getting married at the hotel next door and our parents got engaged here. We paid £150 for b&b- as people who regularly stay at hotels I thought this was steep. The room was incredibly dated and although we had a "lake view" room I pretty much had to break my neck trying to see the lake. These things are minor. The biggest issue was the extractor in the bathroom, the bathroom doesn't have a window so during the night it's necessary to turn the light on. The light however, also turns the extractor fan- which is by far the loudest extractor I've ever heard. I thought an aeroplane was going off! Unfortunately after a day of too much rich food my partner got very sick and was continually up during the night, not only did this keep me up all night but was so loud that a neighbor in another hotel room knocked on our door to complain. What should have been a great day was ruined by the sheer embarrassment of having to explain the situation to a complete stranger. I contacted best western directly to make them aware of the issues and they contacted the hotel which refused to acknowledge any issues with the fan and insinuated that we had elaborated the situation. Stay at the inn on the lake next door. It's a million times better, service is 100% better and if you like your sleep you won't be getting any at the bast western!!

Firstly I would like to apologise you felt you needed to write such a review which is in complete contrast to over a hundred excellent reviews.
After reading your review and the comment regarding the lake view I would like to apologise that you were charged the Lake view Supplement for this room, I do agree that the view from this room is impaired, the reason for this is that Inn on the Lakes Leylandii trees are 10 meters tall and block the view from the left window of the room where you stayed, we are in communication with the hotel to maintain the trees to a reasonable height.
The extractor fan is a new fan that was installed last year the fan comes on slowly once the light is turned on and goes off approximately 3 minutes after the light is switched off unless you keep the light on in the bathroom continually the fan will not stay on, the reason we do not have a separate switch for fans is because we are signed up to the Green Policy and try to conserve energy where possible. Secondly, after looking at the accommodation plan for the evening of the 4th May 2014 on the right side closer to the bathroom is a stairwell to a third floor conference room. On the left side the room was vacant. I then checked with my front of house duty manager to determine if there were any issues regarding noise for that evening and the morning following, but no issues were raised, you yourself did not raise any issue at your time with us or on departure only when you left and again not directly to us but to Best Western Customer Services.
We do acknowledge if an experience is not up to standard and had I found upon investigation issues, then of course we would respond accordingly. I will be refunding your card the amount for the Lake view Supplement and once again apologise that only the lake could be seen from the right side window.
If you would like to discuss the issues you raised further please do not hesitate to contact me directly.

Over priced but convenient for Ullswater. Good parking, and close to town centre, but rooms at front can be noisy and small, though those at back have a good view. Breakfast was nothing special, but limited options in the town.

We stayed in the hotel for 2 night in Feb/March 2014 as we were attending a wedding in the area. We booked a family suite for us and our two children ages 4 and 2. The room was perfect for a family, with a main room with king size bed, chairs, table, dressing table, TV etc, then a short corridor down to the bathroom then second bedroom which had bunk beds, a further single bed plus a cod which we had requested for our stay. The bathroom had a shower cubicle and a full size bath, and was very spacious, perfect again for dealing with young children. The layout allowed us to put the children to bed in the evening and then have chill time in our room with lights on, TV on and we were able to talk with no worries of waking the children.

The staff in the hotel were also very helpful and positive towards the children, from the chap serving in the Ratcher's Bar who was super helpful with all our special requests for the kids, and the gentleman serving in the main restaurant who set us up with a lovely table, took time to chat to us including the children and went out of his way to help out generally throughout our stay.

The area around the hotel is stunning and perfect base for walking in the Lake District. We were there to attend a wedding in the Inn on the Lake next door and this was a perfect choice as we had only a 2 minute walk into the grounds on the hotel but had considerably more facilities for less money than if we had stayed in the Inn on the Lake.

I would definitely recommend the hotel to young families.

Room Tip: Ask for a family suite - we had room 42 which was the other end of the hotel to the reception and re...
