“Decent service, horrid food.”
2 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 12 September 2012

I ordered the breaded fish and chips, they were straight from a packet and if they weren't then there is a terrible cook. The service was decent, it didn't take long for the food to come, but less quantity and more quality please. Also the slant of where we were sat meant that the plates on the plastic tables lead to plates nearly slipping off. Even if I had paid £5 I would still begrudge the price of the food, however, it was twice that much, therefore I would advise they should try and sell their fishfingers at a more reasonable price.
On a positive note I did have a very nice carmarel slice.

“Nice little pub with good grub”

Friendly service, got a bit crowded but added to the atmosphere. Food was excellent, very tasty indeed, but portions could have been bigger for the price.

“bad food in a cramped pub”
2 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 28 August 2012

We arrived at this pub after having a walk from the campsite at side farm in Patterdale. There was six in our party two couples and their children. The pub is at the top of a residential street coming from Glenridding although the pub is quite small they seem to have tried to squeeze many tables together which made it feel a little cramped.

We all ordered food from the menu which was fairly standard pub fayre but at quite high prices. Two of us had the Lamb shank one had curry and the last had Lasagne. My own meal was something I would expect to come out of a packet. the chips were frozen vegetables soggy and the lamb shank was flabby and greasy. Everybody else was of the same opinion that you could get something similar from a Wetherspoons pub. I do not mind paying good prices for quality home cooked food but the standard was far from it. We did not complain at the time as you got what was on the menu but at just under twelve pounds for a main course you should expect something better. Obviously my opinion does not tally with other opinions on this website. I personally wouldn't recommend this pub as somewhere to eat but fine for a few drinks in a busy atmosphere.

“Excellent Food in Dog Friendly Pub”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 4 August 2012

6 of us dropped into the Travellers Rest a number of years on from a previous visit when walking in the Lakes. The food is still outstanding with generous portions. The selection of local real ales is also very good. Food prices are reasonable considering the quantity and quality. The pub is also dog friendly which was great for us on our first holiday with a dog.

“Atmosphere, Great Food, and Reak Ales”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 31 July 2012

What more could you ask for? A great menu with so many delicious choices that you can't make up your mind. An inn that's full of character and provides the discerning beer drinker with a wide range of real ales. The hill walker will do well to drop in here to slake their thirst and recharge their batteries with food that fills and delights!
