If you're fed up with gardens that come closer to being a tourist attraction than a garden then Monteviot is for you. No cafe, gift shop, ice cream sales etc just garden garden garden. Very well informed head gardener who works wonders with a very small team. Well worth the nominal charge and at least a couple of hours.

Paid £10.00 for both tours. I wasn't expecting a guide but we were shown through the home by the wonderful Colin, who was beyond charming. The house is a must see.
Gardens were beautiful and ground staff friendly. Loved the little hut where you could self serve drinks, sadly no nibbles. Surprised how few visitors there were, which made it all the more tranquil.
Happy memory will take back back to Australia.

We gave been a number if times to monteviot gardens and no matter what time of year we go there are always interesting parts of the garden to walk through and look at. The head gardener is always available to talk to about the garden and he is helpful and knowledgable. All in all a truly lovely garden well worth a visit.
