Great children's play area. Well signposted walks for all levels through woodland and countryside. Walk to Peniel Heugh and the Waterloo Monument is worth it for the views - it is up hill and quite steep so will need to be reasonably fit. The monument is locked but we met a family who had a key (£5 deposit only) and climbed to the top using the spiral staircase - great views of the Borders from the top.

The crafts are really good, lots of handmade wooden furniture which was not only beautiful but practical too. The work of the tile maker is amazing and worth the visit itself, we also enjoyed the pottery which is very unusual as looks like metal. Hare exhibition was nice although not keen on the stuffed hare. Sadly the cafe let the place down a bit, the food was good but took forever to arrive, they seemed overwhelmed by the number of visitors

We always make a point of visiting Harestanes when in the area. Our first port of call is visiting the crafts courtyard and Buy Design Gallery, where there are regular workshops held. All the items for sale are of exceptional quality and very good value for money, so it is easy to treat yourself or buy a gift for a loved one. This time we left with a oak barrel stand holding 4 engraved whisky glasses all for £35. This was our first visit to Mary's Dairy where we tasted lovely ice cream in a home baked waffle cone, we also left with some home made preserves, chocolates, baking and meringues. all delicious. We also visited the current exhibition on the subject of Hares at the visitor centre. There are many walks, an outdoor play area for young children and a very welcome tea room.

Easy walks, more challenging walks, free parking., top notch play area, exhibitions, craft shops, nice wee tea room, ice creams - Harestanes has it all! A great family afternoon out. Pocket money toys on offer in shop. Also some very stylish crafts in wee shops.
Possible to eat outside in summer months. Positive attitude to disabled people.
