Torbreck Croft House is perfect in every way! A beautiful rural location with great privacy set mid-way between the stunning sandy beach at Achmelvich and the shops & restaurants of Lochinver. The house itself exudes the warmth of a much-loved family home ... even the dog felt immediately at home! It is comfortably furnished and was presented immaculately clean and well-equipped. We spent most evenings sitting in the porch, soaking up the glorious sun-sets whilst looking out over our own little wildlife sanctuary. One of the best holiday cottages we have ever stayed in. Hopefully, we will be back!
This was our 4th stay at Torbrek as a family of four, now with 14 and 16 year olds. We were 6 weeks earlier in the year than previously so the weather was cooler, but again we were fortunate to have mainly good weather, with some excellent days. The house is just as homely as ever, and we kept it warm lighting the stove and fire with the endless supply of firewood. The new upstairs bathroom is beautiful and makes a huge difference. There was always plenty of hot water for showers and a heated towel rail for warm towels. As ever we ate mainly in the porch watching the wildlife pass, with the heater on if needed. We always enjoy Angus MacDonald’s original artwork and have some place mats and mugs with his paintings on at home, bought from the excellent Rock Pool gift shop in Lochinver.
The view from the hills behind the cottage are as stunning as they have always been. We did an excellent walk from Lochinver to the beautiful Achmelvic beach, and the boys and I climbed the “Fiddler” near Achiltibuie on a beautiful sunny but windy day.
The food in Lochinver was again superb. The Caberfeidh pub/restaurant was back to its previous high standards and the Lochinver Larder pie shop and Peets are also highly recommended. New this year was the An Cala cafe near the harbour, which was also excellent.
Torbrek is by far and away our favourite holiday cottage and the only place we have ever stayed more than once, let alone 4 times. Hilary next door is always welcoming and Flora the dog is very friendly, if now becoming a bit less active in her elder years. Lochinver is a lovely village with superb restaurants and fabulous mountains and beaches on the doorstep. The NC500 has made the place noticeably busier, but this is good for the economy of a beautiful but remote place. After 4 holidays here we still feel as if we have barely scratched the surface in exploring the area. We will definitely be back!
Thank you for a marvellous week at Torbreck. What a lovely, cosy well equipped cottage you have. It was perfect!
A couple of weeks later and back to reality and work, I usually forget to write a review of places we have stayed but this was one location that we will not forget and hope to return to next year. We all loved our week there, amazing location, fantastic house and Flora the dog from next door to keep you occupied with a tennis ball each morning and evening, miss her loads.
Many thanks to Teresa and family for all the advise on the area and top tips on the fishing. Time to check the rosta for 2018 me thinks..
You will not go far wrong by staying here, outstanding...many thanks again for a week we shall not forget.
Amazing house, just what we needed. Peaceful and beautiful location, the silence was deafening! This is the place to come to get away from it all! Fantastic spot for getting to all the beautiful sites "on your doorstep". We have been coming to this area for 15 years, and this accommodation ticked every one of our boxes. Really sad to leave today, but promised ourselves we will be back. Loved having "Flora" come round to visit, and the deer in the garden. Our 17 yr old daschund "Sophie" might not manage back, but we have made so many memories with her on this perfect week.
The location is amazing, a hill just to the back of you to run up and view some of the greatest peaks of the Highlands. The house is very comfortable and the character of the place draws you in and makes you feel that you belong. The new bathroom upstairs is a great addition. Definitely a house you appreciated going home to after a 9hr stomp up a mountain.
We had deer and young stags visiting the garden in the evenings and saw dolphins and a Golden Eagle on our journeys out and about.
We visit this area of the Highlands every year as a family and have always chosen different houses, but we loved Torbreck so much we've booked again for next year.
We had been wanting to return to the Lochinver area for a long time and this lovely cottage was just what we wanted. It is well located for exploring the many excellent beaches along the nearby coast, but also very close Lochinver for provisions and Restaurants. Further afield there are numerous Mountain walking opportunities and boat trips available. The cottage is of a high standard of cleanliness and furnishing and has room for up to 6 people. It was nice at the end of the day to sit in the conservatory watching the birds fluttering about and the local deer coming down from the hills to graze on the lawn. Thanks for a wonderful week.
