What a relief to arrive here after a dreadful rainy day! A lovely welcome at this hotel. Full of elegant furniture plus modern updating too. We stayed in room 18 "Lady Claire". Huge room with wonderful views. Complementary sherry awaited us, a nice touch. Very comfy and immaculately clean. Wi-fi in the rooms would be very helpful if, like us, you want to book ahead to your next accommodation. However it was available in the lounge/bar. We ate in the Brass Tap bar underneath which was lovely. Served by the very friendly David (Bob!) A perfect barman! My Thai chicken curry was fab! All highly recommended!

Dear Linda R
Thank you! The Tongue Hotel team pride ourselves on being professional, warm, welcoming and friendly; so your compliments were very much appreciated!

Your review of your experiences here at the hotel read very positively - I hope they will encourage you to return and perhaps entice other travellers to come and stay too.

We apologise that the Wi-Fi is limited to both of the bars and the guest lounge, however it's free, available and generally reliable which are three big bonuses on this north coast!

We are very happy to hear that you enjoyed both your dinner and the service provided by David the convivial Brass Tap Barman.

Thank you once again for sharing your thoughts about your stay and for recommending us to others.

Warm regards
Lorraine and David Hook

Stayed 2 nights earlier this week, excellent room, good food and very helpful and friendly staff. The bar has a great selection of malts! Although the food was good I did think it was a little expensive but as the location is a bit remote this is to be expected.

Room Tip: Not all rooms have wifi but room 7 definitely does!

Dear Boxerdogman
It is pleasing to read that you enjoyed all aspects of your stay with us - we do indeed have an excellent selection of Scottish malt whiskies!

We appreciate that you thought the food and service was good. Certainly our very rural location means that everything delivered has a high levy upon it however we also do our utmost to source produce that is traceable, sustainable and that speaks of the area; factors that's also attract a premium - but in our opinion the absolute right decision. Thankfully as you did, most guests understand this and appreciate the efforts we make. Luckily for us we do have two menus; the hotel restaurant and the public bar so whilst keeping to our same standards we can offer food at two price points so that our guests have a choice.

Thank you again for talking the time to write the review - your feedback is much appreciated.
Warm regards

The hotel is unassuming from the outside but very good inside. The Victorian decor and furniture have been retained, giving the hotel a nice period feel, however modern comforts have been provided as well. Service is friendly and efficient. We stayed two nights and both breakfast and dinner were of a high standard. Our twin room was very large and well equipped, the bathroom was also large and had an excellent shower.

The hotel is well situated for climbing both Ben Loyal and Ben Hope

Room Tip: Room 6 is a large twin with views over the Kyle of Tongue.

Dear John R
The team here were delighted to read your kind words and positive regard for the hotel. We are happy to know that you enjoyed all aspects of your stay.

We are indeed most fortunate to have so many period pieces of furniture throughout the hotel, it certainly adds to the charm of the place and seems to bring to life the bygone days of this historic old house.

Ben Hope, Ben Loyal, Ben Klibreck and Foinaven are all within easy reach for those looking for hill walks, whilst the less adventurous of us are happy to just admire them from ground level and take a photograph or two!

Thank you again for the review.
Warm regards

I didn't stay in this hotel but I stopped for lunch on my way out to Durness

The place itself is exactly how you imagine a Victorian hunting lodge to be: creaking grandeur, tartan carpets and steps and stairs all over the place.

Service was friendly and efficient in the small dining room with stunning views over the Kyle of Tongue. I went for the Steak & Guinness which came with chips and garden pies and was delicious.

I ate here on Thursday May 8

I was staying elsewhere in Tongue but found this great hotel in Tongue! Lovely staff and service, good food and beers (most important to me) and the way a hotel should be. Warm, welcoming and nothing was too much trouble, including the free 'wi-fi'! Excellent!!!!

The hotel had plenty of charm and character and the welcome from the hosts was excellent.
Steps everywhere to get to you're rooms but there was the offer to carry the luggage for us.
Room was of a great finish if only for the bath looking a little chipped and worn- however functioned perfectly and the shower had plenty of hot water.
Welcome drink in the room was greatly received.
Service was great and honest,- during dinner there was an issue with some of the food but it was dealt with and complementary drinks offered without so much as a quibble.
A great location for a stopover on the tourist route of the Highlands.

Dear gwp12c
So, you travelled all the way to Tongue just to meet two Coventarians! Happily though this does not seem to have detracted from your stay!

We are pleased to read that you enjoyed your room (bath is earmarked for re-enamelling), the food and the service. This is particularly gratifying as when things do go wrong it is generally how the situation is dealt with that leaves the lasting impression.

It is therefore reassuring to hear that on this occasion even when we got it wrong, we got it right!

We apologise again for the glitch at dinner and thank you for your generosity of spirit and forgiving attitude to our occasional imperfections!
Warm regards

We intended staying for one night and immediately booked for two!! The staff were very warm, courteous and welcoming and made us feel very much at home.
The Tongue Hotel is an old Hunting lodge and as soon as you walk up to and through the front door, you are transported back in time to a period when service was king and the customer valued. The Hotel does have a feel of the Victorian era about it, but is all the more cosy as a result.

The management and their team work seamlessly together, to offer the guests a real taste of oppulance and style, from the period furniture to the wall mounted trophies the Hotel is still every bit the authentic Hunting Lodge and the guests can rest at leisure and be waited upon hand and foot.
Even dinner service is a triumph of a former glorious age, with freshly sourced, beautifully presented fayre served by a"white " gloved waitress, who carries your drink from the bar to the dining room when service is ready. so you dont have too long to wait for your meal.

If like us you want a location of outstanding natural beauty, in a Hotel that oozes character and charisma, whilst offering a sense of romance, solitude and relaxation, then book the Tongue Hotel.

If it were not at the top of the Scottish Mainland, this Hotel would become my regular and I must again compliment the staff on their successful format for making every guest feel special, welcome and valued.

Congratulations to the team, we thoroughly enjoyed our stay over Easter.

Dear Jim and Sue
I have to say your review made myself and David feel very proud. We are wholly delighted that you considered your stay with us to be so very special.

The Tongue Hotel is indeed a beautiful former Victorian hunting lodge and as such we work hard to uphold the traditions and standards of service.

It was genuinely praise enough that you extended your stay with us, however your elegant appraisal and review of your stay has us quite simply walking on air!

We are a very small team, all committed to the success of the hotel - we will do our utmost to maintain the benchmarks you have set for us!

We look forward to your promised return!
Warm regards
