“Great gateway to Skye and the Scottish West Coast”
Reviewed 5 August 2014 for a stay in July 2014

We were a late booking for the Lodges, choosing the spacious 6 berth Raasay.

Prior to arrival, Sue sent out great directions that took us to the door of our Lodge ( each Lodge had the guests names in a window to reduce confusion).

On arrival, we were pleasantly surprised to find a clean, well appointed Lodge. Details such as tea, coffee, shortie and a pint of milk in the fridge were well received. The kitchen was well equipped with utensils to allow cooking with ease. Another nice touch was the provision of cleaning materials including tea towels and washing up liquid.

Outwith the lodges was a clothes drier, barbecue and benches/tables to sit at. To keep the family amused, a small play park and pool room next to the laundry were available. A nice touch was the DVD library.

THINGS to do:
Visit Plockton ( the chippy is worth the wait), note that it's quite a hilly road for cycling on. There is a shop but I found its selection quite limited with the bare essentials.
Visit Eilean Donan castle
Visit Skye (note there is a supermarket in Kyle of Lochalsh) and take the Kylerhea ferry to Glenelg. From there see the Brochs and drive back taking in views of the 5 Sisters over Shiel bridge.
Take the Bealach na BA (the UK's highest road) to Applecross. The Applecross inn has an outside catering caravan that was great for the kids. Google the dunes there as they were great fun to slide down.

“Friendly welcome , great facilities , a fantastic base for exploring :-)”
Reviewed 2 August 2014 for a stay in July 2014

A wonderful well equipped cabin which was perfect for me , hubbie ,our 7 year old , and our Newfoundland. Clean and tidy , lots of towels for us too, milk in the fridge and a doggy towel and biscuit waiting for our pooch , which was a nice personal touch. Sue is very helpful and has thought of about everything. The local area is lovely with plenty of boat trips , one which even lets the kids be the skipper ! We had a great time and we will most definitely be back again , A+++++++++++ from us.

“Excellent base to explore the area”
Reviewed 22 April 2014 for a stay in April 2014

I stayed here for 3 nights in April 2014 with my husband and 10 month old baby. It was excellent and we really enjoyed it. If I had packed enough clothes we would have stayed on another night!

We stayed in Rona lodge. It was spotlessly clean with plenty of bedding and towels. The kitchen is well equipt with loads of crockery, pots, pans and equipment. There is a hob, oven and microwave and the fridge freezer is a good size. The lodge also has a dish washer although this was playing up when we stayed.

The double bedroom has a modern shower room next door. Again the bathroom was spotless. There are two twin rooms and a bathroom with full size bath and shower over it as well. The baby had a travel cot in one of the twin rooms. The cot and high chair were provided along with bedding for the cot. Again immaculately clean. There is plenty of cupboard and drawer space and cleaning materials are provided. There was also tea, coffee and milk provided.

The lodge has electric heating. It got quite cool at night but heaters could be left on at a low heat. Be careful if going out that you don't forget to turn off the living room heaters as the living room gets very warm.

The living room has one comfy sofa plus another harder sofa and two chairs. The TV is modern and has free view/a built in DVD player. There are also some games and books.

Duirinish is a couple of miles from Plockton and about 6 miles from Kyle of Lochalsh and the Skye Bridge. Kyle has a large Co Op supermarket, ATMs and other shops. Plockton has some excellent restaurants. Travelling with a baby it suited us to go out and about during the day and have our evening meal in the lodge. It was ideal for that. If you are wanting to go out at night then a car would be needed although numbers are provided in the lodge information book for taxis. The information book is comprehensive and has suggested walks, restaurant details and useful phone numbers. We did the drive over the mountain to Applecross which was scary but spectacular.

The manager is really helpful too. We had a power cut on the last night and she came round all of the occupied lodges with candles and matches.

There are just a couple of points that I was not keen on. First, the lights in the lodge, particularly in the bathroom are very dim. The dishwasher wasn't working and I am not sure it is really needed - it is easy enough to wash plates etc after meals. It would actually be better to have a washing machine or washer/drier in the lodge instead. (that is just a personal view as a baby generates a lot of washing!). The high chair was super easy to clean but not all that comfy for the baby. It was solid wood and had a high back which she bumped her head on. These are just very minor personal points though.

This accomodation is ideal for families. It is peaceful. There is a kids play area. The owner is helpful and friendly. We would definitely go back.

“Excellent accommodation”
Reviewed 28 October 2013 for a stay in October 2013

Stayed in these lodges for a weekend as part of a group. We had three lodges between us.

I was in Crowlin.

It was cosy and very comfortable, apart from the very high cushions on the two chairs in the living room - not great for someone with short legs like me! The heating system was very good at heating the room quickly. Great when you come in from the cold, although the living room heater could be set with a timer.

Every facility provided including bedlinen and towels which were lovely and big.

All in all a very good place to stay.

“Lovely lodge, relaxing holiday”
Reviewed 6 September 2013 for a stay in June 2013

I stayed at Duirinish in May (a bit of a late review ) with my wife, 2 grown up children, daughter's friend and my brother. We all stayed in Rona Lodge and we had a fantastic holiday. The lodge has been extended and provided plenty of room for our group and immediately it felt home from home.
On arrival there was milk, tea bags, coffee and biscuits waiting for us which was a nice touch. The kitchen itself was so well equipped there were more utensils and things than in our kitchen at home! Having tomato ketchup, salt, pepper and cooking oil in the cupboards was also useful.
The location of the lodge is perfect giving you chance to explore Skye and the surrounding area easily.
There was plenty of information about things to do in the area, including a list of lovely walks of varying length, along with a list of beautiful beaches to visit. Also recommended, was a very nice Chinese takeaway in the Kyle of Lochalsh, well worth as visit!
We enjoyed it so much that on arriving home we immediately booked up for the same week next year.
Thank you Sue (owner) for a lovely holiday and we look forward to seeing you next year.

“Perfect place to stay and visit the Wester Ross and Skye”
Reviewed 21 August 2013 for a stay in July 2013

The lodge was very well furnished and very cosy. We really enjoyed getting back to our lodge every evening and spending the evening there. We used the barbecue every day but could not eat outside because of the midges. Anyway the stay was perfect and we made good use of Sue's advises. It was a pleasure every morning to meet the free roaming highland cows in Duirinish. We enjoyed every bit of our stay there and would recommend it to all our friends. Pictures of the lodges should be updated. We had a flat screen TV set in our lodge and not the TV we had seen on the pictures.
