Stayed one night, would like to have stayed longer. Really friendly hosts, brilliant breakfast and a comfortable room overlooking the loch. The room wasn't on-suite but the bathroom was right next door and was very nice with a great shower. Good value for money too. Highly recommended.

Just back from Bonnie Scotland during which 3 nights were spent at Mackenzies B and B at Plockton near Skye. Plockton alone merits a visit because of the stunning scenery and the fact that it appears to have its own microclimate at times with weather much better than locations just a few miles away. The Palm Tree's take a little getting used to ( it is Scotland after all ) and you will not be disappointed to view such beautiful surroundings on your first visit.
Mackenzies is run by Jane (mum), and Fiona (daughter) and they are everything a guest could wish for in terms of being a visiting guest. Our party ( 2 couples ) stayed for 3 nights , and had the place to ourselves, the single room being vacant. Stunning views as the Loch is only 30 feet away from our bedroom windows, and just the other side of the road. The rooms were both very comfy, one being on-suite, and the other had exclusive use of the large bathroom next door. A nice touch is that each room had a decanter with a large wee dram of Whisky ( FREE GRATIS ) courtesy of Jane, to help us sleep at night!
Breakfast was served in a very comfortable and homely family kitchen, cooked to order by Fiona. She did a sterling job, and the waffles on the last morning were to die for!
All in all we were very sorry to leave as the whole experience will take some beating.
Finally we ate at 3 different venues, Plockton Shores, Plockton Inn, and Plockton Hotel. All three were very good on service and quality of choice and cooking, so why not give them all a go as we did. Its doesn't get much better!

This B&B is beautifully located on the seafront at Plockton, a village which is itself breathtaking. The view from our room overlooking the harbour was delightful and the room itself was extremely comfortable. Fiona & her parents go to the effort of adding little extra touches like leaving some whisky in the rooms so you can have a dram before bed. Only thing I would say is that it is weird that the ensuite bathroom door has windows in it and the blind used to block these doesn't really do its job properly!

Breakfast was great and served at the family's large dining table in their open plan kitchen/dining area. You will therefore sit with other guests as the family prepares the breakfast for you (homemade waffles are gorgeous). This may not suit everyone but we thought it was lovely and really improved the atmosphere of the B&B in comparison to those with formal breakfast rooms. We would stay here again in a flash.

I stayed at MacKenzies with my brother in late July. Jane, Calum and their daughter were excellent hosts and very welcoming It did make me smile when the previous reviewer said it felt like they were staying in a strangers house...isn't that the same in any B&B, unless you visit the same one regularly.

Breakfasts were excellent with Jane's freshly made fruit salad a highlight. I can also recommend Calum's Seal Trips which are excellent value for money (and no charge if you don't see any seals). The only slight downside was that the toilet in the bathroom didn't flush most of the time but that didn't spoil our stay. The view from the bedroom window over Loch Carron is probably worth the money on it's own and we shall certainly enquire about staying here again when we return either later this year or early next.

I would have wished a more positive experience consider how long MacKenzie's has been in the industry. I found the room and house too cluttered for my liking, with personal effects everywhere so it seemed like we were staying at a stranger's house. Ensuite bathroom could have used more hooks/shelf space. We were given towels that felt like old towels and the bed linens could have been updated (pillows were flat). Hosts were gracious and friendly, no fault with that. Breakfasts were good with the option of fresh waffles a nice surprise. The location on the seawall did provide excellent views.

We were very sorry to read that you did not like your stay with us, but would like to remind you that you were staying in a stranger's house - the whole idea of bed & breakfast is that you choose to stay in a "stranger's house". When you elect to stay in someone else's house you can expect to find some of their personal belongings around. There are none of our personal effects in the guest bedrooms or bathrooms. Other people have only commented on the artistic and eclectic feel to our house. I am sorry you did not say anything to us when you were here which would have allowed us to address some of your issues. The pillows were replaced a couple of months ago and we have spare if you didn't like the ones on the bed. As for the towels the ones in the en suite room where you were staying are quite new good quality 100% ringspun cotton.. I would appreciate if you could tell us how you think we should "update" the linens. Admittedly the en suite is quite small and there is only small shelf space around the wash hand basin. We will take your advice and add some hooks. This is a traditional stone built house built at the end of the last century that has been updated and extended while trying to keep the traditional feel to it, we are proud to say it is still a lived in family home into which we are happy to invite paying guests, we try very hard to provide a positive experience and help guests to enjoy this wonderful area.

Just returned from a trip to Scotland and had to thank the folks at MacKenzie's B & B for a wonderful couple of nights. From the time we were warmly welcomed, to our departure, our hosts were absolutely amazing! Our room had a stunning view and contained everything we could possibly need (or want) including a dram or two of delicious whiskey! The breakfasts were incredible (including the best waffles I've ever had). Unfortunately, on our last morning, we had to leave before breakfast. However, our hosts offered to pack us the most bountiful take-away breakfast/lunch to eat on the ferry. It's those extras that make a great B & B experience! Plockton is a beautiful village to visit. If you are a Hamish Macbeth fan, the series was filmed here and you can see everything from The Stag Inn to Rory's store. We used the B & B as a base to visit The Skye Museum, The Kilvaxter Souterrain, Dunveagan Castle, The Coral Beach, lots of walks, and also just sat for hours in the sun at the docks enjoying a beautiful summer day. All in all, a top-notch experience!
