well my hubby and i decided to go camping this weekend. So we went to Mew lake. Its a nice and all but our site 120 is a nice site and all but you could hear and see the hwy and sometimes it would be nice and quiet but other times it would be noisy. Dont get me wrong its a lovely campground and all but the hwy nose SUCKS!!! next time we'll be staying at another campground.

Mew lake staff is great and beautiful location but the traffic nose sucks..

My significant other and I decided to change up our regular camp routine with a stay in one of the yurts at algonquin park's Mew Lake camp ground. Our decision made for the worst camping experience we have ever had. First off, we were denied the exchange of the wet fire wood that the park sold us for a drier bag. Secondly, we had paid extra for the use of a yurt and access to electrical services, electrical services that were not available to us throughout most of our stay due to power outages. We were understanding of the situation, however we were not offered a rebate for a paid service that was not available to us. In addition to no refund, we were also charged a "cleaning fee" upon checking out of the camp ground. Park staff made claim that we left the site a mess and that it had taken them ~30 minutes to clean the yurt. This accusation is believed to be bogus since we had removed all garbage and swept the floors just prior to checking out. This act of dishonesty (embezzlement?) led us to file a complaint with upper park management. It took a month for someone to address our issue only to have no resolution.

Room Tip: Camp on a regular site, or better yet stay at another park.

This is a lovely site next to a small lake. It is also right on a fairly busy highway, so choose your pitch with care. There is traffic noise at night. The pitches are generous in size, complete with fire pit and picnic table. This was my first experience of camping in Canada. Unlike British campsites there are no dishwashing facilities and the main facility block was a good walk away. This was spotlessly clean. The nearer vault toilets, depending on the time of the day, can be quite smelly. The lake is quite small, but ideal for young children with a small section roped off. Several bike trails pass through the grounds. There was also a free organised birdwatching session whilst we were there.

Room Tip: Choose a site well away from the highway. This is probably more difficult for those with dogs.

We arrived here late friday night after an internet booking (Don't know whey there is an internet booking fee BTW?!)
The site is great, we picked a lakefronted pitch which was nice and scenic, but as soon as it's dark, the frogs start. ALL night. ANd they are loud! So we got very little sleep but overall it's a great place, clean, warm showers, nice beach area and close to the old railway line for cycling too.

This January we took our yearly winter trip to Algonquin Park, staying at the Mew Lake campground. The yurts are heated warm structures where one can sleep and eat. You must do your cooking outdoors though!
The comfort station is open for hot showers and washrooms. The out houses are open for the adventurous.
Check in is a breeze at the East or West Gate of the park. There you get your key, and you're in.
There is a host that lives in the park during the winter who can help you out with inquiries.
This year the skating rink was open for additional activities.
Our favorite pas times there are the marvelous track set cross country skiing at Leaf Lake and Fen Lake trails, as well as the wonderful snow shoeing. There is numerous marked trails to snow shoe from along the highway, or you can trek out back of the campground to the Track and Tower hiking trail.
There is lots to do, enjoy the great outdoors of Algonquin Park year round!
