“Amazing x-country ski getaway!”
Reviewed 28 February 2012

The eco lodge was everything we expected from the web site info and more. The owner and staff were both friendly and accommodating. The meals were very good. The rooms are cozy, warm, and quiet. The ski trails were fun and challenging, the hot tub was relaxing. Meeting other outdoor enthusiasts was a real treat. We will definitely come back again. A big thank you to Robin, Santa, and Edgar for making our eco-lodge experience so wonderful!

I've been to the Eco-Lodge six years in a row, usually with 15 - 20 friends. We sometimes rent the whole lodge. There's a variety of groomed trails, from easy to challenging. Make sure you go up to the Look-out--it's a bit steep at the end but well worth the view.
The lodge is very homey, with tea, coffee, and hot chocolate usually brewing on top of the wood stove.
The owner has also made a lot of improvements over the past two years--upgraded washrooms, showers, etc. Best of all is the outdoor hot tub which now runs the whole weekend. It's powered by the on site hydro generators, replacing the wood-fired one which took forever to get hot. Ski all day, then slip into the hot tub at the edge of the lake to relax the muscles.
Hey, it's not the Hilton and the rooms are basic but comfy. But in my view, you get great value for money. It's the kind of place where there aren't many rules. If you need something, ask Robin the owner and he'll likely be able to accommodate your request.

We were looking for accomodation in algonquin Park, and the Eco-Lodge turned out to be a perfect choice. If you are looking for complete quietness and peace and a cozy, relaxed, friendly environment: this is the place to go. We got pampered with excellent food and very friendly service, enjoyed the canoes provided and the hiking trails, the hot tub and the Sauna and the swim in the little lake at the Lodge.

I have been going to this lodge for over 20 years. I have been thrilled to see the improvements made year over year, especially in the last 5. The steady investment in infrastructure, lodget services and outdoor activities make this destination a pleasure for me year after year.

I must confess I am biased, because I have come to love the pond, trails and river as much as the concept of leaving my car - and worldly concerns - at the parking lot as I hike into the lodge.

The fall colours were excellent this year, as was the hiking, canoeing and hearty food 3 times a day. The Algonquin Eco-Lodge is the perfect combination of services and outdoor recreation for my interests and needs.

Room Tip: They have the main lodge and some cabins by the water. Both have their pro / cons and are worth chec...

We visited the Eco-lodge during our tour through East-Canada, and stayed 3 days (2 nights). The travel to the lodge was already a nice adventure, challenged by the sun and mosquitos (we used the anti-mosquito spray kindly provided by the Eco lodge). Edgar and Santa gave us à warm welcome. The lake, canoes, jacuzzi and the great lodge made this à great visit to the Algonquin Park. Edgar is great guide and Santa 's meals were very good (delicious latvian meals!). The campfire with marshmellows was big fun (we got lessons in making the wolf cry). Our 3 sons enjoyed the visit to the waterfall à lot, great pictures.
It was an unforgetable trip To à beautiful forrest! I hope my picture of the hummingbird Will be on the website.

My wife and I stayed here from July 1st to July 3rd. Unfortunately the deer flies, horse flies and mosquitoes were so numerous it made hiking pretty much impossible, so we contented ourselves with using the peddle boat and canoe on Moffat pond. We were told that because of the wet spring the insects were exceptionally bad this year.

The lodge is rustic and cozy. Our room was quite small with just enough room for the double bed and a small dressing area. There was no lock on the door but it was not a problem - no one entered our room when we weren't around. Meals were ok but with it being a lodge there were no choices. The first night we had delicious homemade lasagne. For breakfast the next morning we had banana pancakes with real maple syrup. The second night dinner was a rice mixture with vegetables and chicken. Salad and dessert was included with both dinners. Breakfast the last day was scrambled eggs, sausage and hash browns. Included with breakfast is orange juice and coffee or tea. Lunches consisted of sandwiches, granola bars, fruit and apple juice or peach cocktail. Soon after breakfast the lunches are put out on a side table so people can take a lunch and head out for the day. Breakfast is served around 8:45am and dinners are at 7pm.

Though my wife did not sleep well, I found the double bed was very comfortable - I had the best sleep experience of any trip yet. At night the area is very quiet - there were very few night sounds. Evening during the day it was quiet except for the occasional bird call and the sound of the nearby waterfall.

Early one morning we took the paddle boat to the middle of the pond and just sat silently listening to the sounds of nature as it woke to the new day. It was catharctic and somewhat surreal as we heard distant bird calls all around us, as we sat there out on the still pond.

We used the hot tub one afternoon. It is built into the deck area down by the waters edge, so you have a nice view of the pond as you relax in the tub. At night they often have a bonfire, otherwise there is little else to do.

We enjoyed a very relaxing weekend at Algonquin Eco-Lodge and would recommend it to others but I suggest going later in the summer when there are fewer insects.

We had a very nice weekend. They took the trouble to arrange transportation from Toronto for us and got us all the way up to Algonquin Park. The Lodge is just a beautiful place near a frozen lake (we were there during winter) and with lots of hiking, snowshoeiing, cross-country ski and snowscooter trails all around. It was a great adventure to get out there and explore the wilderness. By the look of the fresh tracks everywhere, there was wildlife all around. I guess we scared them off because we were too loud to actually see them. We even tried a wolf howl and got a faint response on the second night!!
At night, there is no light pollution and I saw a clear sky full of stars for the first time in my life. Just sensational! We had lots of fun in the outdoor hottub, because outside it was -20 C and we were boiling in there. A great experience to do the Polar Bear Dip as well.
The staff was very personal and lots of fantastic stories of living in the park. I really enjoyed the warm treatment we got. On Sunday, they arranged for us to go dogsledding which was just absolute fun! Eventually, they brought us back to Toronto and I am sad to say our weekend was over..
