“Excellent value, good location”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 15 July 2014

We stayed for just one night in the "Up in the Air" room, with an elevated double bed and a sofa area underneath, which was really cosy. The value for money is excellent and the location, right on the main square, is perfect. Everything in Popayan is within walking distance. The large chill out area in the middle of the hostel was also a great place to relax before facing the border crossing to Ecuador!

ParkLife is a beautiful building right in the centre of the old town. The location makes this the best place to stay in town. The dorm rooms are large so you can keep track of your stuff. They also have loads of information up on the wall so you can plan the next stop on your trip.

We stayed for one day and it was a really great experience! The hostel is very clean, comfy and pretty. And the staff is so nice and helpful. Super recomendado para que se queden. La ubicacion es perfecta ya que queda en la Plaza Caldas y es muy cerca de la mayoría de atracciones!

Loved this hostel. Such a breath of fresh air after a not so nice stay in Tulcan the night before. It's really bright and airy and has two indoor chill out areas with big cushions and low to the ground couches. The loft area upstairs has a TV and is a great place to relax. The staff there were so lovely and were really great when I had to chase up a lost go-pro cord, Borja even tried to find someone travelling to Cali to take it with them to deliver to me! So nice.
Oh and they have a huge board with things to do in the area which was really helpful.
Would highly recommend!

My Partner and I had the pleasure of staying at park life twice. We were there longer the second time due to unforeseen motorcycle trouble (don't take a giant bike to a country full of little bikes) and my knee blew out. Bohraj (I know I misspelled it), Kieran and Smith are so friendly, helpful and amazing that I was almost sad to leave. Almost sad, but I know we'll be back just no motos next time.

Anyway, here's what you need to know to get the most out of your stay:

1) It's right in front of the park. It can get loud at times, just go to the pharmacy and ask for Tapones (ear plugs). Make sure you speak very clearly, otherwise you're gonna get a box of tampons. The dorms are really quiet and cozy though, the noise thing mainly applies to the three rooms that open onto the main square.

2) There is a cat. Most South American hostels have them because...yeah! Rodent control and cats are why the internet exists, so I don't need to explain why folks have cats. But if you have allergies, there is a kitty named Suzie.

3) The bathrooms are shared. ALL the bathrooms. We were next to a very rude British couple that kept slamming the main door to the bathroom that the three front rooms share, probably because they were jerks, but mostly because they probably thought that bathroom was exclusively for them to use. It is not. You can use any of the available restrooms in this amazing house.

4) Make sure you know how to ask for the "market" and the "super market." Not the same thing for those of you just starting your travels.

5) Negotiate Taxi fares BEFORE you get in the cab. Ask the staff if they have an idea of how much it will be, they're really helpful.

6) There's a big kitchen with an oven. Make some cookies, enjoy your life.

Room Tip: The square is full of life around the clock. You can hear people talking, singing or playing music a...

We stayed here in the wonderful light and airy ´room with a view´, with windows on two sides looking onto the beautiful Parque Caldas. Very friendly and secure hostel, with helpfull English speaking staff.
Walking distance from everything and in the evening you can hear the church choir singing from the cathedral next door.
Wifi did not always work in room, but worked fine in the communal areas.
The bathroom, shared between three or four rooms, is a bit outdated and could use some upgrading (broken toilet seat), but was cleaned frequently.
Cheap laundry service was much appreciated.
Excellent price/quality ratio, would stay here again.

An amazing location, right on the main square. Nice owners/staff, nice layout to hostel with a cool little attic room.

It's not the cleanest place though, our bed had not been changed upon arrival and the kitchen was always a bit messy - simply adding some tea towels and a cloth would help here.

Nice place though, would stay again.

Official Description (provided by the hotel):
Parklife Hostal is a hostel that has opened its doors in May 2011 in the very center of colonial Popayan, Colombia. Our concept of accommodation is based on comfort, good music and a good service. Park Life is the perfect place to sit around a table with your new found friends and a good cup of Colombian coffee. The comfort and the spaciousness of our common areas turn Parklife into a favorite place for the "adventurers" that decide to come to Colombia. Getting to Park Life hostel is easy, very easy. You only have to ask for the Central Park which in Popayan is called Parque Caldas or the Cathedral. In fact it is a nice 12-15 minutes walk from the bus station. ... more   less
