“Nice Trek into the Back Country”
Review of Boga Lake

While Boga Lake itself isn't all that spectacular, the journey is. You have the option of traveling via jeep or simply hiking in from Ruma Bazaar. Back country hiking in the Chittagong Hill Tracts was by far my highlight of a month in BD. You'll have to pull some strings, but if you hook up with Imran at the cell phone repair shop in Ruma (don't worry, it's a tiny town and everyone knows Imran), you may be able to travel well beyond Boga into the serious back country known as the Chittagong Hill Tracts. My trek involved 5 nights and we scaled the four tallest peaks in Bangladesh. Boga was simply the first evening stop on the tour. This is a different world back here, folks, and one well worth seeing before it gets swallowed up by tourism and modern life. During my time in this area, I did not see another tourist from either Europe or the Americas. Truly off the beaten path.

Bagakain Lake, also called Baga Lake or Boga Lake, is a lake located in Ruma Upazila in the hill district Bandarban, Bangladesh.

It is a natural sweet and deep water lake. Its height from sea level is nearly 2,000 feet (610 m). Geologists believe that it was created by collection of rain water in the crater of a dead volcano almost 2000 years ago. The lake is rectangular in shape.

A local legend tells that the lake was created after the inhabitants of a Khumi village killed and ate a deity who later reappeared to them in the form of a dragon. Instantly an earthquake occurred, the hillside caved in, and the village disappeared and formed a deep lake. The water color of the lake varies at different times at a day depending upon the sun light, humidity and clouds.

Few days back I went to Boga lake - really, it was an amazing experience of my life.

I went by motorbike till Ruma bazar. Picked up guide and started journey through Jhiri poth. We had to tracking for 5 hours - that was amazing.

But you need to get the permission to go along with that road.

Boga Lake- now a days widely visited beautiful spot situated in Ruma Upazila, Bandarban - 2700 feet up from the sea level, by the lake there is a village called Boga Lake para of indigenous Bawm community who mainly live on cultivating land...grow ginger, chilly, papaya, banana etc....has their own cultural..there is two way to reach to this area from Ruma bazar - through the stream way, a wonderful trek, takes about 5/6 hours to cross 17 KM...who likes adventure always prefer this way rather than the car road....the best time to visit during October till February to avoid monsoon & hot in the other months.
