We spent Nov 19-26 again at the VIM and I'm scratching my head where recent negative reviews are coming from, did those people stay at a different Valentin? From the minute we were welcomed with a cool towel, champagne and "welcome home" we knew we were "home again".

Breakfasts at Le Marche are bountiful and include a crepe station, omelette station and fresh fruit smoothie station. Some mornings we enjoyed a harpist and others a sax players. Add in a mimosa and it's a great start to the day. Lunch we enjoy Mar & Tierra and our favorite waiter, Gilberto. Before you sit down he's carrying over your drink, the man has a memory that won't quit. Some restaurants have a few new things on the menu, fun to try! We really enjoyed the made to order sushi in Don Miguel bar. Grey Goose and sushi, what a way to start the evning.

The pool was a bit chilly in the morning but by 11 AM it was fine. We spent many hours in our swimway floats enjoying drinks in our tervis tumblers!

We came back to our room one afternoon to find the jacuzzi tub filled with warm bubbly water with rose petals floating on the top in the shape of a heart. Beautiful!

We had the opportunity to meet with the GM, Ricardo. He was most engaging in discussing our past experiences at the VIM and assured us if we needed anything to contact him personally. What an asset to the VIM he is.

Special thanks to Alba and Daniel in the Privilege lounge who took such good care of us from beginning to end. And to the workers that keep the grounds looking so amazing. Also to Miriam at Le Marche and again to Gilberto, and those great guys that come pick us up on time when we are ready to check out and for carrying all our bags and not letting us touch one!

I know this is an all inclusive resort but please remember to tip these hard working people, they work so hard.

We are booked again with a group of 10 people in May, some repeaters and some newbies. We will also go in November. We have travelled the word both on land trips and cruises but our vacationing changed in November, 2008 when we first stayed at the VIM We found our second home.

I agree with the previous reviewer. The room we were given, even though I had booked 12 months in advance, was smelly and was damp.It took over an hour in discussions at the front desk, being told that there was not one room available at the catagory we had booked, they agreed to move us when we had to pay for an upgrade.I explained that I had a medical problem and could NOT stay in a damp room under any circumstances. They did not care and would not allow me to speak with the manager even though I asked to speak to him to explain .They did not refill our mini bar on a daily basis and we had to ask for slippers, robes and face cloths. The restaurants close on a rota a couple of nights a week so this makes it very difficult to choose where to eat without planning your week in advance. As Speedygonzalezmexico said there was no choice of vegetables. The food in the Teppanyaki was cold and I was sitting on the end so received a minute portion of everything. The food was very disappointing and I only ate tuna and duck for the whole week.No pork no chicken breast at dinner anywhere. The drinks around the pool and beach were excellent and served with a smile. The only reedeeming factor was the staff, they were FANTASTIC.Bottom line would we go again? Not on your life!!

I really don't know how anyone could find anything negative to say about the Valentin Imperial Maya - we just spent a week there and the only 'complaint' (if you could even call it that) was a couple of times our room wasn't cleaned till about 5 p.m. However, I noticed later, I could have requested it to be done at a specific time.

We didn't meet any single staff member who wasn't more than happy to accommodate any and all requests and seemed genuinely proud and happy to work at the Valentin.

The restaurant selection is excellent, Italian, Mexican, French, Japanese, Steak, Seafood, Indonesian and no advance reservations required -- plus 2 buffets for breakfast and lunch selection was one buffet and one a la carte.

I would HIGHLY recommend this resort to anyone travelling to the area.

Room Tip: Building 2 is close to the main buildings, pool & restaurants -- Ocean view rooms - due to the h...

My husband and I like to travel in November for my birthday. We take 2 vacations a year and love going to Mexico (good prices, food, ocean..ect), so we've been there and done that:)
When we arrived, front desk gave us $100 worth of vouchers, stating that it can be used for spa, food and champagne.
SPA LOVERS- First of all - the spa is super small and has a tiny sauna and little rooms for massage ONLY. When we presented the vouchers, they said that we can only use $20 towards $150 massage or some other expensive service. Second of all: to just use sauna they wanted $10 /day, but vouchers do not apply!!!! WTF?? So, the voucher thing is just a way to embarrass you!!
I wanted to order a lobster in a French restaurant. The waiter was nasty and stated that it will cost me extra, unless I have a stupid voucher.. I gave him my $20 voucher and he said that he can only use $10 -? Again, we looked like idiots, because his English was poor and we didn't want to spoil our evening (especially on my birthday).
At the end (when we were checking out) they asked for extra $15 for french restaurant...

The resort is big, but not very beautiful for it's rating. Restaurants are ok and food is pretty good.

Room Tip: Location at building #5 was excellent and close to the beach.

Fantastic resort great people great food ... been to many other all inclusives in the Riviera Maya, and as far as adults only this is the best hands down. Best food we have ever had at an all inclusive, most friendly staff. November 16-23 was trip date .. and those who complain pool was ice cold ... NO IDEA what they are talking about ... .only issue for us was small gym, otherwise terrific!

Room Tip: loved golden suite .. buildings 6,7,8

Reading some of the previous reviews I wonder if we went to the same resort...Having been to Mexico a number of times and stayed at the El Dorado, Sensatori & a Rui, this resort sadly falls short in a number of areas. Yes, the resort is clean, has a decent small bit of beach with access to the sea avoiding the underwater rocks, does a perfectly reasonable breakfast & lunch buffet, has some very polite staff...the rest is somewhat of a disappointment.
BEWARE and be really BEWARE... of the food in the a la carte restaurants in the evening. No reservations were necessary BUT do be prepared to wait well above the time they warn you of. You get given a buzzer if it's full (or nearly full). Had to wait two hours on one night for a table having been told it would only be 35 mins. Nearly lost the will to live! The food when you do get it is poor at best.
The French restaurant has a manager who doesn't mind if you walk out (as one table did) or who doesn't care if you had to wait for an eternity for drink service. You are ok if you are a large group...they definately get all the attention.
The steak house is ok if you like really fatty/sinewy meat served with a choice of only a jacket potato. I'm no connoisseur but I wouldn't mind a chip or two with a steak!
The Italian...OMG surely a Caesar salad involves Cos lettuce and shaved Parmesan not wilted mixed leaves and a bucketful of grated cheese!!
The Tepinyaki is great for the show of spinning knives and food chopped at the hot table but don't expect it to be hot. The rice is STONE cold.
Finally, the lobster house serves good old fashioned fish 'crab sticks'...you know the ones with the stringy strips of white meat with orange skin...instead of real crab. Not really 5 star...in anyone's book.
Enough of the food. The final disappointment was the pools. At this time of year they are STONE COLD FREEZING. In a country where they get so much sun why not invest in a tad of solar heating for the pools? No wonder everyone was huddled up on the beach despite if blowing a small hurricane.
Having said all that, if you do go there you will enjoy it because they do have some nice touches but be warned they get some of the basics really, really badly wrong.

Spent last week at the Valentin as part of a party of 6 – all adults of course – no tiny fingers in the buffet here! We had a great time and I am struggling to add something substantive. The food was good. We have stayed at a Secrets and I think the restaurants were a notch or two higher there but frankly at some point it becomes too much every night. On this post-Thanksgiving week there was plenty of space on a very nice long beach and at an almost as long a pool. Room service and a mini-bar were a nice touch for couples that were really enjoying each other’s company. Noise was not a problem. The staff was helpful and friendly without exception. One of our party knew their tequilas and there was no problem with “top drawer” availability. The resort is big with no high-rises: the distances might be tough for the real elderly although golf carts were available. USA Transfers was $60 for 4 persons each way and worked without hitch.
