We were honeymooning at Valentin from July 27 to Aug 3; We had a junior suite in building 5, room 116; we asked upon arrival of an upgrade for honeymooners but we were only offered a discount on another room. We decided to see the room and decide if we were happy with it and we decided it was close to everything and didn't bother upgrading. We were close to the main pool - some people say it was noisy, we had no issues but the pool closes at 8 and it's not noisy at night at all. In the mornings, also quiet, the pool is only noisiest around mid afternoon but again, we weren't at all bothered by it. The room was beautiful, very clean, the TV's are old and should be updated but we hardly used it anyway. Bring hair conditioner if you have long hair.....the one provided in the room is not great. We had a good laugh about the bathrobes - one size fits only small people. It fit me but my hubby not so much....good for a chuckle however. Building 5 is also close to the beachside restaurant, for buffet breakfast and lunch - they also the steak & seafood a la carte dinner there. The room was also close to the beach access path. We did think the hotel could put a walking path at the beach, on the back behind the turtle enclosure and behind where all the lounge chairs are set up. Would make the access a lot easier for guests and the bar staff when they are walking back and forth to deliver drinks on the beach. The programs and activities at this resort were very organized and there was always something to do, if you wanted something to do other than laying on a lounge chair. Someone was always organizing a beach volleyball game or soccer on the beach; in the pool they were doing aquatic aerobics and games; there were bike tours and kayak tours....all included.
The restaurants were great! We tried almost all. We did think there should have been more communication as to when the special buffet nights were, we would have organized our schedule around them. We missed the Mexican buffet because we booked our dinner on the beach for that night and we missed the Carribean buffet because we booked the Hibachi for that night. The dinner on the beach we only did because it was our honeymoon but although it was very romantic and all that...it was over priced. It was special though and the service was fantastic. My favorite meal the entire week was at the Italian restaurant, I had the ravioli carbonara. My hubby had the salmon carpacio app.....he did not enjoy it. I had the bruscetta which was very enjoyable. The French restaurant was excellent however, order more than one appetizer each and share, they are like teaser's, so good but you want more! The breakfast and lunch buffets are very good also.

We never had a problem finding lounges at the pool or the beach. They do get busy but if you are up and out early enough you will have no problems getting seats. We preferred the beach for the sea breeze; there is no breeze at the pool so it does get very hot and the pool temp was like a bath tub - the time of year I suppose.

We went on 2 excursions, the Mayan Adventure and Tulum - extremely fun! We enjoyed them both.

We also went on the Playa Del Carmen shopping tour....first stop is the jewellery store....hard core selling tactics. But, it's not wrong to say no. Then we stopped at a local coffee shop which is also a Hostel and they talked about how the coffee is made and they roast the beans there, it was not a lengthy discussion, we enjoyed it and were off to 5th avenue for some souvenir shopping - the vendors (some) can be very pushy....barter, barter, barter - they will always be negotiable. We were supposed to go for a guacamole making lesson but for whatever reason, it didn't happen. We were told the restaurant wasn't open. We made our way back to the coffee shop to await our transport back to the resort and my husband and I were first back so we had a cappuccino and espresso and a nice talk with one of the ladies working there....about weather in Canada and her homeland...thoroughly enjoyable!

All in all, we loved our time at the Valentin and we would go back. We were discussing when we would return while we were there as a matter of fact, probably our 5th and/or 10th wedding anniversary, however, we would probably book with prestige benefits.

Room Tip: building 5, room 116 - close to the beach, beach side restaurant, and main pool.

We travelled to the Valentin Imperial Maya on July 25th 2014 for a 1 week vacation. I had previously been to this resort a few years back, and this was my girlfriends first trip to Mexico, so I wanted her to experience nothing but the best, and this place didn't disappoint. From the moment we arrived to a cool wet towel with a glass of champagne, everything was flawless. The room was perfect, clean, and well air conditioned which was nice this time of year. All of the restaurants were top notch quality and the service was amazing. Gilberto down at the breakfast buffet near the beach was an outstanding individual, his service was over the top. He knew what we wanted every morning, and his attention to detail was amazing, such a kind man who works very hard at what he does. The pool bars were also very good, and in that heat, it was much needed. Miguel was an outstanding bar tender, and he made sure everybody was taken care of all day long. This trip was nothing short of spectacular, and we will definitely be returning in the future.

We had an excellent stay at the Valentin Imperial Maya. The rooms were spacious, the grounds well maintained, and the staff very friendly. A very large and clean pool was spacious enough so you didn't feel crowded. The beach is amazing! One of our favorites. A wide variety of dinner options made it difficult to choose where to go each night. I highly recommend getting the Privilege Package, well worth the extra expense. The excursion staff was very helpful and we didn't feel pressured to sign up immediately. If you stay here, look for Gabriel at one of the pool bars. He was very helpful and we looked forward to talking with him every day. One of our best vacation destinations to date.

My husband and I just returned from our 2nd trip to VIM. We are from NY and have visited around 15 different resorts in the Caribbean and Mexico, many of them all inclusives. We like to go to different locations and resorts but VIM is one of the few that we just had to return to. We had an amazing vacation as expected. We stayed in an emerald suite. Room 13204 had an amazing view of the ocean.
All of the restaurants were great. French was our favorite. French onion soup is like none other I've ever had. Sushi at the bar in ginger was also one of the best meals.
Beach was absolutely beautiful, plenty of palapas to go around. You'll just have to walk farther down to get one if you get to the beach later in the day. Of course people reserve them early, and play the towel game, but that happens everywhere and there's not much you can do about it.
Pools were great too. We spent time at the quieter one and loved it. We brought our own float from target and then left it there when we were checking out.
We were there a year ago and really appreciated two changes that were made. They now had wifi in the rooms which meant we didn't have to go to the lobby this time to exchange emails with family back home. We also loved the fact that you don't have to deal with towel cards or turning in towels to get new ones anymore.
Some staff that made our vacation even better... Our concierge, Joselo went out of his way to make sure we had the best vacation. Carlos, the bartender at the beach bar was absolutely awesome and we couldn't be happier with our experiences with him. Antonio, the bartender at Don Miguel was also great, we loved seeing him before we headed to dinner each night. Maribel and Johana at the spa were fabulous. My husband and I have had plenty of massages before and had a couples massage this time around. He said Maribel gave the best! The ladies in the cigar bar were also wonderful! Imperial band was so fun. It just seems that everyone who works at VIM is happy and makes the whole vacation even better.
We hope to go back soon!

We went with a group who like to drink and party. This resort did not meet that standard at all. If you are looking for a relaxing laid back resort, then this might be for you.

POOL: The pool bar closes at 5pm and they shut down the music at that point too. The music at the main pool was more like "relaxing spa" music and not upbeat When we asked the activity guy to change it he was rude and told us, " just calm down" and "music is music and all music is good". I'm sorry, I disagree. The main pool should have an upbeat party style atmosphere. The best music they played was when they were doing water aerobics and then they shut it down to the spa music again. The pool behind building 6 is very calm if someone wanted a calmer atmosphere. Now, the pool bar liquor available was never consistent. Grey Goose was only available sometimes and when they ran out, they didn't restock it and told us they didn't know when it would be available. If you pay for all-inclusive, your bar should be stocked at ALL TIMES. Seems like it was a one bottle per day and when it ran out, too bad. Pool games by the GO staff were very few and not often. For the positive, the pool is beautiful and large enough that you don't feel crowded. We didn't have an issue finding beach chairs or rafts at any time and we were there most of the day.

BEACH: Service on the beach for drinks even trying to get water was pretty much non-existent. When a server did come by, he didn't come back for at least 30-60 minutes later w/ watered down drinks. There were hardly any beach games or activities going on the beach. Our group played one game of beach volleyball and that was it. I wanted to kayak and could never find the guy to get one. Then I had one guest tell me that you have to put a deposit down to take them out. On the beach, the "privilege" section seemed to be closer to the bar and wait-staff help. The general area was far away from everything.

ROOMS: We stayed in building 6 in a Golden Suite. The rooms are large and spacious. Very very nice. The bathrooms are also very large with a great shower and jetted tub. The only complaint here is the room never seemed to get cold. You could only turn the air to 68 degrees and it never felt that cold. I even turned the fan on high only to come back to them having turned the fan off. Would like to have bottle service in the rooms.

FOOD: The food was ok at best. I had a club sandwich ordered from room service and lets just say I'm not sure the 1" of meat on the sandwich counted as being a club sandwich. It did arrive quickly when I ordered it. The restaurant food was ok. The best meal we had was at Mar for the steak. Mar did allow the men to wear shorts and this was a plus. The other places weren't that great. I would like more restaurants that don't require the men to wear long pants and collared shirts to dine in. It's hot during the summer and this is not comfortable for them. Especially since the restaurants are air conditioned but still warm in there or they are open air style outside.

STAFF: The staff over all was very nice with a few exceptions at times. Check-in and check-out would have gone faster if more than one person was working.

SPA: We had a couples massage and the booking and massage itself was great. The staff here was accommodating and very friendly and professional.

ENTERTAINMENT: The Elvis singer needs to go. The DJ was good and we would've like to see that start earlier than 11pm.

Overall the resort grounds are beautiful and large. Be prepared to walk a lot.

My wife and I visited the Valentin Imperial Maya from July 12 - July 19. This was our 6th trip to all-inclusives in Mexico and our first to the V.I.M. We traveled with another couple and this was their 3rd trip to all-inclusives in Mexico. We were looking for a resort that was adult only due to our experiences at the other resorts with children. This resort is "beautiful" and the best we have vacationed at.
The beach is beautiful, very wide with plenty of beach lounger chairs for everyone. The Caribbean is aqua blue with 2 to 4 foot waves and very little sea weed. The pool is large with 2 pool swim up bars, one on the quiet, relaxed adult side the other on the "spring break/party side". We spent most of our time at the pool on the "spring break side" and met people from all over the United States. Lounger chairs at the pool were very scarce after 2:00 pm and pool rafts were always in use. Bring your own raft if you want to float in the pool in the after 2:00 pm. The bartenders work very hard at both pool bars and take some $1's and tip them, they earn it. If you don't want to go to a restaurant for lunch, at the pool between 11:30 and 2:30 there is a grill set up serving chicken, hamburgers, hot dogs, chicken wings and other foods depending on the day. The "Go" team had various activities going on at the pool on the "spring break" side during the mid afternoon.
We stayed in bulidling #1 and had a silver junior suite on the 3rd floor. Building #1 is located near the pool and lobby/restaurants and a short walk to the beach. We liked the location because of the closeness to everything. The room was large with a king size bed and very clean. We had towel animals with each evening's turn down service that was a very nice touch. The refrigerator was always stalked with beer, coke products, water and fruit juice.
We went to dinner everynight between 6:00 and 6:30 and never had to wait to be seated. We ate at all of the restaurants and the food and service was excellent. My wife has food allergies to mushrooms, shellfish and sea food and did not have a problem at any of the restaurants finding food on the menu that would not cause an allergic reaction. The managers of the restaurants went above and beyond with there service to accommadate her allergy issues. We ate breakfast at Le Marche each morning and the manager Alexjandro was very helpful and accommodating. Executive Chef Angel was also very hepful and accommodating during our stay. One evening we ate at the Japanese restaurant and made reservations for a table show, the meal and the show was excellent. All of our meals were the best we had, compared to the other resorts we had stayed at in Mexico and the service we top notch.
The bartenders at the bars were very effecient and work very hard and always thank you when yot tipped them. All of the bars have premimum alcohol but you must ask for it if you want it in you drink. Visit the piano bar and say "hola" to Antonio, he makes the best mojioto in Mexico.
Overall the Valentin Imperial Maya is a 5 star resort and we will be returning in the near future because of how we were treated - "top notch."
