“You won't be disappointed!”
Reviewed 6 August 2014

We did a 4 night stay here July 26-30th. Everything was amazing. Our room was beautiful and clean. The food was great (my husband was obsessed with the flank steak at lunch). The staff was friendly. Roberto, the sushi chef, was awesome. If you really like sushi be sure to sit at the sushi bar instead of the tables because I think there are more sushi options there. Roberto will take care of you! I didn't do any of the fitness activities but my husband did and he loved doing the corefit circuit classes with Barbara. He said she was great and he really enjoyed that. If you go in summer, be prepared for it to be HOT! The pool felt more like a jacuzzi and I was glad I had brought a thermo straw cup from home because the drinks melt fast.
The one thing we would have preferred would be a relax dress code for summer at the restaurants. The men were all really hot because they have to wear long pants. There is AC in the buildings but walking to and from dinner was hot as was sticking around for the outdoor shows. We loved our stay overall. Valentin is the only resort in Mexico that I've stayed twice and honestly I would return for a third time. We loved it!!!!

Dear Kate from Chicago, Illinois

We are overjoyed knowing that you fully enjoyed our beautiful resort.

Thank you for mentioning to Roberto and Barbara, they as the rest of our team love what they do and this makes a huge difference in service that you expect and really deserve.

On the other hand we are sorry to know that the dress code provided was not the adequate to complete your requirements. We have implemented a dress code to create an elegant ambience in most of our restaurants. We have air condition units in our restaurants so that our guests are comfortable when wearing formal attire.

We always appreciate our guests' contribution, suggestions and comments which help us find out about their preferences.

We look forward to welcome you back for your 2 nd visit at the valentin imperial maya resort.

Please do not hesitate to contact us prior to your arrival so we can assist with all pre arrival requests and be sure that your stay surpasses all expectations.

We planned our annual girl’s trip this year for Cancun and ended up booking the Valentin Imperial Maya based on the great reviews on Trip Advisor. It did not disappoint! The service was top notch from the time we arrived to the time we left. The rooms were a good size as were the bathrooms. We had enough space to add a roll-away bed and still felt there was enough room to move around and be comfortable. We were in the Deluxe Junior Suites in Building 5 and had great access to the main pool, the beach and the restaurants. The beach exceeded expectation with its beautiful sand and ample cabanas for lounging. There were a few people selling hats, cover-ups, etc., but they were not intrusive. We were looking for a fun and relaxing vacation, and this resort fit the bill!

We ate at 3 different restaurants for dinner (French, Italian and Japanese Hibachi) and had good experiences and great food. In hindsight we would have bypassed the Japanese Hibachi as it wasn’t anything special, though it was entertaining. There were 2 buffets for breakfast and lunch which had a wide variety of international cuisine. You will not go hungry at this resort!

There were plenty of activities during the day (volleyball, yoga, Zumba, ping pong, bike tours, etc.) and the staff put in a good effort to get people involved without being over-bearing. However, most people seemed to just want to hang with their friends/spouses in the pool or at the beach. At night there was always a featured show as well as a piano bar, sports bar and smoking lounge. There was also a live band each night at the main outdoor plaza followed by a DJ. There was never a lack of entertainment.

This was one of our best girl’s trips yet and we hope to be back soon!

We had high hopes for this resort. My wife and I spend our vacations on the cruise ship and were ready for something different and perhaps a little more luxurious. This resort is by no means the most expensive but it was considerably more than the cruises we have taken. I would say we're used to a certain level of service in this resort unfortunately did not meet my expectations. .
This resort was kind of bipolar in a way. The hotel had the potential of being a 10 out of 10 but they dropped the ball in some key areas.
When we checked in we were told we were receiving an "upgrade". When we arrived in the room that was supposedly upgraded there were two double beds for my wife and I. After realizing that we could not enjoy a good night's sleep in such a small bed I asked to be switched back to our original room which had a much larger bed. One strange thing was that when we arrived in our "upgraded" room there was an envelope addressed to a different guest which made me think that our upgrade was actually someone else's room and they didn't want that room either. Upon my initial reservation I requested a upper floor top floor room with a queen or king bed and are supposedly upgraded room was on the second floor with two double beds so I was not happy to begin with. They did switch us to a different room but it was a hassle moving all our stuff and kind of left a bad taste in my mouth.
The remainder of the resort however was excellent in all details. The food was outstanding and the service in the restaurants was excellent. The bartenders for the most part, made excellent drinks and were happy to do so. The grounds and beaches were beautiful and well maintained. There was always someone power washing the sidewalks and sweeping. The activities staff was great and very fun. We try to take part in as many activities as we could. Now if the hotel itself would have had that same level of excellence I would have given this review all stars and would definitely be back for another visit.

The housekeeping was very inconsistent and not the thorough. Our room was not serviced on a regular basis. The linens were mismatched and had holes in them. The towels were very rough on the skin. The pillows were made of cheap foam rubber. The glasses and champagne flutes had lipstick marks on them. We had a stopped up sink and leaky pipes underneath the sink that were not repaired after calling two times to have it fixed. We had to call several times and get angry with the front desk staff in order to get our room cleaned and our mini bar stocked. In one instance the housekeeping staff came at 10:30 p.m. because they hadn't come the entire day. After repeated requests for washcloths they inexplicably gave us 6 bath towels. I called several times to have the minibar restocked and to have more coffee available for the coffee maker which by the way it was very, very cheap. There were catsup spills on the patio from the previous guests that were not cleaned the week we were there. The patio deck chairs had flaking paint. There were stains on the glass doors.
As a side note I would recommend not visiting in the summer. We came in July and the heat was a oppressing and the humidity made you feel as if you were in a sauna.

Our travel agent did exactly what we asked when we told her our priority this time was BEACH, SERVICE, DINING. We always go ADULTS ONLY and ALL INCLUSIVE. We've been to one other in the area - El Dorado Seaside Suites. Both were fantastic and we felt like we were spoiled and a part of the rich and famous club. Both resorts are absolutely gorgeous. Both had fantastic restaurant choices and delicious food all day every day. We thought Seaside was cleaner and more relaxing, Valentine was more geared to pool bars and drinking. Valentin has a much better beach (can go barefoot forever where as Seaside you need to wear water shoes). Both had Fantastic staff although we loved our maid service at Seaside much more - she introduced herself and greeted us every day and left special little notes and treats each night (we tipped her well at the end of our stay because of it). We liked our room at Seaside better - maybe because we fell in love with our maid, but at Valentin our room didn't get serviced until very late in the day, and there was mold on the ceiling above the tub and it was never addressed during our stay. Because of the spider monkeys, raccoons, and Coati that are everywhere at Valentin, the sidewalks are very dirty and they do not clean them and these animals are everywhere in the jungle as you walk the resort. At Seaside there are animals too, but the jungle is groomed and well-cared for and even has seating areas and beds everywhere that you can take a break, read a book, have privacy etc....this does not exist at Valentin. Also at Valentin there are very few palapas that are free and don't need to be reserved for an additional cost, so you need to get to the beach or pool very early to secure one. There are more available at Seaside for free. Valentin is a great place for weddings, so even though it is a gorgeous place and adults only, I forgot that the majority of adults that are getting married are still in the 20's, so there were large groups of partiers - hard core drinking/partying going on in large groups - and the occupy most of the pool and pool bars all day. The first night we were there we were enjoying a fabulous dinner at the Italian restaurant and I excused myself to use the restroom only to find an intoxicated girl vomiting in the sink! Be it not for the marvelous beach and getting to release baby sea turtles into the ocean late at night, I would not return to the Valentin. Because the beach is not so great at Seaside, I don't know if I would return - beach is very important to me. It's tough to say - we had a very good time and nothing is perfect but this was close. We booked through Sunseekers Vacation (Sharon Moormann is the best). Funjet/Lomas Travel. We did the Ocean Safari Excursion which was fantastic - jet ski and snorkel and it was well worth every penny. Hope this info helps.

Room Tip: There aren't any rooms right on the beach - the rooms closest to the beach didn't seem to ha...

Dear Guests from Dallas, Texas

We are very sorry to read your comments concerning our food quality , it is understandable that we cannot always be the best for everyone´s discerning tastes … We do have a wide gastronomic offer with 7 thematic restaurants “à- La Carte”, with a wide variety of both cold and hot dishes to comply the expectations for all ages and nationalities .

We can assure you that the health and safety of our guest and staff is our major priority, in this regard the hotel is supported by the Cristal Food Safety Risk management program developed for the travel and tourism industry. This program covers high level hygiene standards, which comply with international and national health and safety regulations. This program and its compliance are monitored and audited every month at the hotel through competent auditors and every visit has been successfully passed, for that reason the hotel has been recognized by the Check Safety First as a Cristal Regional Winner.

We also would like to mention that between staff and guests, almost 2000 people are eating every single day in our resort. In case of food problems we would have hundreds of sick people, fortunately and thanks to the support of the Cristal program once again , it is not the case.

We would have truly appreciated knowing of these inconveniences first hand ; to provide you a detailed investigation and take immediately action before reading your negative review on TA. Unfortunately the situation was not reported within the resort.

Finally we make you aware that all the information you have provided has been forwarded with the F&B manager .

Regards

We were honeymooning at Valentin from July 27 to Aug 3; We had a junior suite in building 5, room 116; we asked upon arrival of an upgrade for honeymooners but we were only offered a discount on another room. We decided to see the room and decide if we were happy with it and we decided it was close to everything and didn't bother upgrading. We were close to the main pool - some people say it was noisy, we had no issues but the pool closes at 8 and it's not noisy at night at all. In the mornings, also quiet, the pool is only noisiest around mid afternoon but again, we weren't at all bothered by it. The room was beautiful, very clean, the TV's are old and should be updated but we hardly used it anyway. Bring hair conditioner if you have long hair.....the one provided in the room is not great. We had a good laugh about the bathrobes - one size fits only small people. It fit me but my hubby not so much....good for a chuckle however. Building 5 is also close to the beachside restaurant, for buffet breakfast and lunch - they also the steak & seafood a la carte dinner there. The room was also close to the beach access path. We did think the hotel could put a walking path at the beach, on the back behind the turtle enclosure and behind where all the lounge chairs are set up. Would make the access a lot easier for guests and the bar staff when they are walking back and forth to deliver drinks on the beach. The programs and activities at this resort were very organized and there was always something to do, if you wanted something to do other than laying on a lounge chair. Someone was always organizing a beach volleyball game or soccer on the beach; in the pool they were doing aquatic aerobics and games; there were bike tours and kayak tours....all included.
The restaurants were great! We tried almost all. We did think there should have been more communication as to when the special buffet nights were, we would have organized our schedule around them. We missed the Mexican buffet because we booked our dinner on the beach for that night and we missed the Carribean buffet because we booked the Hibachi for that night. The dinner on the beach we only did because it was our honeymoon but although it was very romantic and all that...it was over priced. It was special though and the service was fantastic. My favorite meal the entire week was at the Italian restaurant, I had the ravioli carbonara. My hubby had the salmon carpacio app.....he did not enjoy it. I had the bruscetta which was very enjoyable. The French restaurant was excellent however, order more than one appetizer each and share, they are like teaser's, so good but you want more! The breakfast and lunch buffets are very good also.

We never had a problem finding lounges at the pool or the beach. They do get busy but if you are up and out early enough you will have no problems getting seats. We preferred the beach for the sea breeze; there is no breeze at the pool so it does get very hot and the pool temp was like a bath tub - the time of year I suppose.

We went on 2 excursions, the Mayan Adventure and Tulum - extremely fun! We enjoyed them both.

We also went on the Playa Del Carmen shopping tour....first stop is the jewellery store....hard core selling tactics. But, it's not wrong to say no. Then we stopped at a local coffee shop which is also a Hostel and they talked about how the coffee is made and they roast the beans there, it was not a lengthy discussion, we enjoyed it and were off to 5th avenue for some souvenir shopping - the vendors (some) can be very pushy....barter, barter, barter - they will always be negotiable. We were supposed to go for a guacamole making lesson but for whatever reason, it didn't happen. We were told the restaurant wasn't open. We made our way back to the coffee shop to await our transport back to the resort and my husband and I were first back so we had a cappuccino and espresso and a nice talk with one of the ladies working there....about weather in Canada and her homeland...thoroughly enjoyable!

All in all, we loved our time at the Valentin and we would go back. We were discussing when we would return while we were there as a matter of fact, probably our 5th and/or 10th wedding anniversary, however, we would probably book with prestige benefits.

Room Tip: building 5, room 116 - close to the beach, beach side restaurant, and main pool.

We travelled to the Valentin Imperial Maya on July 25th 2014 for a 1 week vacation. I had previously been to this resort a few years back, and this was my girlfriends first trip to Mexico, so I wanted her to experience nothing but the best, and this place didn't disappoint. From the moment we arrived to a cool wet towel with a glass of champagne, everything was flawless. The room was perfect, clean, and well air conditioned which was nice this time of year. All of the restaurants were top notch quality and the service was amazing. Gilberto down at the breakfast buffet near the beach was an outstanding individual, his service was over the top. He knew what we wanted every morning, and his attention to detail was amazing, such a kind man who works very hard at what he does. The pool bars were also very good, and in that heat, it was much needed. Miguel was an outstanding bar tender, and he made sure everybody was taken care of all day long. This trip was nothing short of spectacular, and we will definitely be returning in the future.
