Wonderful place, great workers all over. Interesting things to do throughout just the resort daily. Lots of animals walking around which was cool to see if you don't mind it. Clean and nice just about everywhere. Will definitely be going back someday.

Room Tip: Room was nice and we had the lowest priced one. Would love to go back to experience a higher priced room to see how it is in those.

Best vacation ever. This was our 2nd time to Valentine Imperial Riviera Maya and don't know we will never go anywhere else because of the service and all around good time. Everything is kept up beautifully and the service is amazing. Make sure to go scuba diving with Kyle from Barrakuda, he is an amazing teacher and they pick you up right on the beach of the resort. I'm not certified yet but they do a intro to scuba class in the pool then 2 dives in the coral reefs less than 3 miles away. Best vacation ever.

We stayed at the Valentin Imperial Riviera Maya from June 16 to the 21 and we had such an amazing time, it was tough to leave! I will try to provide as much detail as I can as it was these reviews that helped me determined to pick VIM in the first place. Capacity is just over 1000 guests, they tend to always hover at 90% capacity, sometimes dipping to 80% but for the most part they are usually full. Due to the size of the resort though it never actually feels full, everything is very spread out which makes everything very peaceful.

We stayed in building 3, a deluxe junior suite. The building location itself was amazing - we were a very short walk to everything minus the beach. The restaurants, main facilities, main pool and golden pool were all nearby. Our room itself was huge, clean, and very accommodating. Love the balcony overlooking the jungle, we spent many evenings hanging out there listening to the many animals venturing about at night. The mini-bar was stocked with a couple dos equis, water, juice, pop and potato chips - I ran into the staff who restocks the minibar and asked for waters and cervezas only - he obliged and we were quite happy. The ceiling speakers connected to a Bluetooth receiver was a nice touch, we played music while getting ready for dinner. Bed was very squishy, as were the pillows.. I prefer a firm mattress and pillows, but I did sleep ok regardless. My only complaint about the room was the door was paper thin - we could hear everyone and everything that went on in the hallways, and sometimes even other rooms - this isn't that big of a deal as most people are respectful, but if there is a loud group on your floor you may want to ask to be relocated.

The restaurants we went to in order:
La Hacienda (Mexican): Went here the first night, love how much selection was on the menu! The guacamole was only 10 minutes old when it was served to us, the tortillas were crisp and amazing, all the food was excellent. We left so full we couldn't even order desert!

Le Marche (buffet): So much selection it was overwhelming, we went to the buffet for breakfast and lunch on most days - and on most days, we left very happy. Some foods remain constant throughout the week, but overall there is plenty of selection to go around with a few Mexican dishes to choose from.

L'Alsace (French): By far our favourite restaurant, get the filet mignon - you will not be disappointed!

Mar y Tierra (beach buffet): For breakfast and lunch this is a much more scaled down version of Le Marche, not as much selection overall and we found it disappointing. They are also unable to control the birds like they do in Le Marche - so they are often spotted eating the food right from the buffet.

Taman Sari (Asian/Indonesian): Again, amazing food, we wanted to try everything and they were more than happy to give us smaller samples of the dishes we wanted to try. The Pad Thai was so good, I just wish it was spicy! Our waitress Maria was the best, she kept making jokes with us and made our evening so much better.

Room service: We ordered room service once, the food was fresh and very good - if you're not in the mood to walk to the restaurants room service is always a viable option :)

Entertainment: We went to the evening entertainment every night and overall left very impressed, our favourites were the magic show and of course Michael Jackson. The shows are generally short, 45-60 minutes, followed by several other alternatives - you can go listen to a mariachi band, hang out in the sports bar (where I believe they have a dj), or go to the plaza where a live band is always playing - we always went to the plaza. The band plays older songs, 70s-80s mostly with some more recent hits thrown in. Regardless of what you choose to do there's always something going on until late in the evening.

The pools: the main pool is where most people go - the pool itself is very large with two swim up bars and lots of sports equipment, a volley ball net, basketball nets, plenty of floats, etc. If you do take part in the towel game rest assured you do not have to get up at the crack of dawn to reserve a chair, we went to the main pool as late as 10:30am with chairs still available, however come midafternoon you are hard pressed to find anywhere to put your things down.

Golden Pool: The golden pool was our preferred destination, very few people go here and it's a gem! It's super quiet, lots of floats, lots of chairs, and there's an awesome snack bar and a bar with wait staff. We loved going here in the mornings to relax and have a quiet swim. If you are staying on the first floor of the golden rooms and hang out on your patio the wait staff will bring you food/drinks, nice bonus :)

The beach is huge, like the main pool we had a hard time finding a chair though - we usually did at some point but had to go far out to get one. The wait staff at the beach is very active and they are awesome, you don't have to wait very long at all for your order.

We loved almost everything about this resort, they have a lot of activities throughout the day that we chose not to take part in, however we did do the bike tour twice which was a lot of fun. The staff are very engaging and helpful, everyone will great you with an enthusiastic "Ola!" There are plenty of golf cart drivers along the main paths that will slow down and ask if you want a ride to your destination.

Not everything was perfect however, we did have a couple of experiences we were not overly fond of. We were forgotten about in the lobby during the check-in process, couples/groups who came in long after us were checked-in immediately. After waiting an hour, I approached the front desk and was told to wait another 15-20 minutes... after waiting another 30 minutes I approached again and told a different staff member who was immediately apologetic and started the check-in process right away. My wife and I were very tired and hungry at this point, I asked for a room upgrade due to the inconvenience of waiting, she said she would get us one for sure (nice!). When we completed the check-in process I asked what room we had and was told I was on the first floor of a deluxe junior... that's not a room upgrade at all? I didn't want to make more of a fuss, but asked for a top floor room which she got her manager to approve. That 90-minute wait was pretty taxing after a long flight... if there was to be such a wait why not let us to go explore the resort or get some lunch instead? It killed our buzz :(

We had other dealings with the front-desk and, while I don't want to sound too negative... there was a lot of lack of empathy from the front-desk staff, every other staff member we dealt with on the resort, from maintenance, to concierge to bar and wait staff we loved... front desk staff we just avoided as best we could for the rest of our stay.

A quick note on smoking at this resort: it's allowed everywhere except for in rooms and in restaurants. My wife and I are non-smokers (former smokers to be specific) but found it quite disturbing at times, usually when someone would start smoking right next to us on the beach or in the plaza during the evening (the plaza was awful for smokers...). It wasn't an overly big deal, one night we had to move to another table as the smoke was bad, but it's not a deal breaker. However, if you have difficulty with cigarette/cigar smoke you might want to keep this in mind, it's unavoidable at the main pools/beach/plaza and even walking around the resort.

Room Tip: Building 3 is central to the entire resort

The first thing that we noticed about this resort was the beauty of the natural setting. It feels like you are in the jungle and the thought and attention to detail with the landscaping is amazing. You feel like you are in paradise walking around on this property. We had great service everywhere and the staff was very helpful and friendly. Our favorite restaurants were the Mexican and French restaurants. I would highly recommend the Onion Crusted Soup at the French restaurant and the Banana and Nutella Ice Cream at the Mexican restaurant. The whole facility was very clean and all the bathrooms (public) were immaculate. The pools were both very nice with lots of chairs, we could always find a place to sit. The beach was also a great spot to spend the day, we did have to arrive a little early in order to get a chair under an umbrella. Some reviews knock this resort because it is too spread out and things are far away, but we like to walk and enjoyed the walks through the natural beauty.

The other side of the coin: Sometimes the beach and pool service was very slow. It was easier to just get up and get your own drinks on some days. One time we asked for bottled water and they never did bring it to us. Another day we ordered lunch at the smaller pool and it took 40 minutes to get it and the people next to us ended up leaving before their food even came. This was not always the case. Some days our drinks would not even be empty and they would be there asking what else we needed. It was just hit and miss. The beach has a lot of kelp on it. This is by no way the fault of the resort, but it is something to know going in. They spend a lot of time trying to clean up the beach to make this better. Lastly, we stayed in building 2 and there was a little bit of a funky smell in our room. It had rained a lot before we got there and I think it was just a wet smell. We would also consider paying for an upgraded room. The room itself was not much of a retreat. It might have been worth the upgrade to be in a room that felt more like a retreat. None of these things would keep us from recommending this place to others. We had a great time.

Room Tip: The upgraded room might be worth it.

Returned to this resort for the third time on June 11 to 18 2018 after 5 years.
Booked with Ait Transat Travel with Deluxe Silver Club with exclusive advantages Vacances Transat.
Were supposed to have a private transportation to/from Hotel : We had to fight at the airport to get our transport, finally had to take the BUS with 20 others people. We managed to have a mini bus going back (with 5 other people).
Transat REP at the Hotel was of little to no help at all. They did not recognize our exclusive advantages package because we were not on their list (even if we showed our papers which indicated clearly that we add payed for it). We could not use the exclusive silver club pool (they verified our room number and asked us to leave) wich is a downer for us … this little poor is very quiet and has very comfortable chairs.
The hotel has changed greatly in 5 years. Used to be a quiet luxury place where you could spend a relaxing time around their superb pool. Now, the relaxing area is very limited and crowded. Most of their main pool is now dedicated to PARTY TIME and is over crowded.
During the evenings, bars and relaxing areas were over crowded. Was difficult to get a seating place if you hit these areas past 20 :30.
We travel twice a year and have no intention to go back to this place.
