“Wonderful stay on Magdelen islands”
Reviewed 27 September 2013

We visited the auberge as part of a larger group where there were classes each of the three days there. The visit was enhanced by outstanding tours of the islands (incredible locales and vistas, breath-taking sunsets) and delicious meals. The rooms were not inner urban deluxe, but very nice, with very nice amenities in the bath.

Everyone on the iles was very, very friendly and accommodating. We would definitely revisit and can recommend this hotel.

Room Tip: We had ground floor accommodations, which made it very nice; we were on the gulf side, away from the...

We spent three nights here after spending two nights at the other end of the island chain. This place has an interesting philosophy with a mission to educate visiting tourists about the islands. Check in was efficient and easy and we felt truly welcomed by the front desk girls. We were very happy with our room on the second floor. The views were amazing out over the Bay. I would imagine the views from the first floor would be less impressive. As others have said the rooms are fairly basic but they are clean and comfortable. The furniture is all locally made, which seems to be the basis for this Auberge. They are apparently a non-profit organization with a mission to promote the Islands, the way of life of the Madelinots and provide employment for local people. As far as we could tell all the folks that work there grew up on the Islands and know and love them well. There are organized activities each day to take part in as you wish. Unfortunately the weather was dreadful during our visit but despite this there were various trips each morning and afternoon to different parts of the Islands. There is a seal museum on site which explains about the life and natural habits of the various seals found in the local waters. There is also a discussion about seal hunting which is still pursued, on a small, non-commercial basis by Madelinots in the spring. Breakfast and Dinner were included in our three day package, which made it a good deal. The breakfasts were amazing with generous helpings, enough to make us skip lunch. Dinners were also very good and we were very happy with the choices of entrees each night. A small appetizer plate is provided in the bar each evening which gives guests the opportunity to meet each other. We had our own transport but the way things are set up here makes it perfectly feasible to visit without transport. They will pick you up from the ferry or airport and many of the other guests here had flown in from Montreal. Most guests do appear to be from Quebec province and most of the staff speak French primarily. However, as poor French speakers we managed just fine and most staff spoke perfectly adequate English.

Room Tip: Second floor rooms looking out over the Bay would have the best views.

We unfortunately stayed here only 2 days but had the best time ever. Great food, wonderful service and the nicest animators. We had a really fun time and the views were amazing. Not the fanciest rooms , but they were well kept. We did the Island tour and clam digging along with a couple of treks all really close to Auberge Salicorne. Try the a la carte seafood at the hotel restaurant as well...very very good.
Loved it and would go back in a hearbeat.

Room Tip: Ask for a room that faces Boudreau Island

I was a bit skeptic about going to "les Iles de la Madeleine", to begin with, but once you experience the place and the peoples at this resort, you cannot be more enchanted with the place.
They have a great personnel, always keen on making you have a great time, they are open, accessible and most of it true.
The plethora of activities offered was great, if it happened that all or most people had done the small expedition and not another despite it being offered that day, they would be more than accommodating and change things around to make sure you could have the best of times, all the time.
The food is simple, ample for all taste and honest, they could improve on the selection of wines offered but this is secondary.Overall great quality for the price and most of all, if you go there for the seafood, it is amazing.
as for activities, I like nature and I like to learn, this place is the best for it if you have no car and most of it not enough friends or family there to show you around.
The scenery around is beautiful, the rooms are good and very clean, personnel very polite and sympathetic. If you want the Ritz Carlton, it is not the place for you, but if you want great fun, plenty to do and a great time, this is the best place. I would go back tomorrow.

Room Tip: bike service is free, kayak, canoe, and other sports items are free as well.

My girlfriend and I decided to spend our 2012 summer vacation at La Salicorne. We wanted to visit the island and wanted something special. Everything was above par at La Salicorne. We were getting up in the morning and having our included breakfast which was really good. On the dining room a board was placed everyday offering different free activities to do. We really couldn't ask for more the view from our room was really amazing, the food was delicious and different every night. Every morning one of the staff member would ask us if we want to have lobster for diner and would go get it straight from the incoming fisherman in the morning. We talked a lot to the other tourist and they all agreed that this was the best spot to spend your vacation. We met great people, we ate delicious seafood, we saw amazing landscapes and beaches, we truly couldn't ask for more.

Room Tip: Ask for second floor room with view on the south side.

My girlfriend spent 7 days there with my 2 1/2 years old daughter. We had an all inclusive package with 7 breakfast, 4 lunches and 7 dinners plus a choice of daily activities we could chose from for free.

Overall a place that I would recommend if you are family traveling, not if you want a romantic, quieter place...

Highlights:
- Very friendly staff. Always there to help and make your life easier
- Nice location, almost at the northern end of the islands. Very quiet and close to many amazing beaches and landscapes...

Lowlight:

- Our room was ok but on the ground floor on the parking side. So a bit noisy and with a lot of people passing in front of the window...
- Comes a bit pricey on a daily basis

Room Tip: Ask not to be on the ground floor on the parking side.

We visited as a family of six (two adults, four children aged 6, 11, 13, 15) plus the grandparents for six days. We had rooms on the second floor with views over the inlet. The hosts were helpful, friendly, and circumspect. The inn, while simple in its design, was built with every detail in mind, from plenty of storage for clothing, tasteful furniture (Ikea style), and satisfactory cleanliness. I would not recommend the rooms on the ground floor or on the courtyard side, as they are more noisy and/or do not afford the great views.) I liked knowing that we had access to canoes and pedal boats any time we liked without additional cost. The meals at the restaurant were delicious and copious. For those who like lots of organized activities, there are things on offer every day. We opted out of these to do our own thing. We arranged to have a picnic lunch one day for a day trip to Entry Island (well worth the VERY early ferry). The hotel prepared our picnic lunch to order and it was ready for us the next day. Evenings were lively with live music and tastings of local fare. All in all highly recommended! Please note that the hotel is located at the extreme tip of the islands (from the ferry terminal and airport) and that getting anywhere else in the archipelago takes at least 20 minutes of driving.
