I was a solo traveller with a dog, driving from east coast to west coast. I stopped here because it seemed like a quiet, safe area. When I arrived around 11:30pm, the lobby door was locked, and I had to speak through a box-office type window to the attendant. I asked if I could come inside the normal lobby, as it was very breezy, but she just said "No sir, it's locked for the evening". She had a completely indifferent manner as she exchanged my money for a card key - not one ounce of customer service intent, which was off-putting. The room was equipped with mismatched and worn furniture. It LOOKED really bad, but all the fixtures worked well enough. I slept well enough too, and my car with its cargo was unmolested the next morning. I'm not sure if they had a continental breakfast, but if they did, it must have ended by the time I left (9:30ish). There was a juice machine that I used before turning in my key. The man who took my key in the morning had a vastly better attitude than the woman of the prior evening. He was very polite.
If you're looking for a 1-nighter while passing through Memphis, and you top priorities are SAFE AREA and CHEAP RATE, then I would consider this place.
