We visited Sama last sunday with friends. It's very cosy and clean, traditional restaurant with cypriot meze. The food was fresh -I recommend the chicken casserole and souvla. Very tasty. I appreciate the new owner's effort to reopen the place because he wants his parents' house to 'have life' and give the village's tourists a place to eat and relax from a day's excursion.
The only thing I suggest improving is the variety of meze and the quantity. The chicken casserole was served in a small plate for the 7 of us and because the portion wasn't generous some of us tried only the sauce!
I ll go again!

The new owner with his team do an excellent job with that traditional little cozy tavern at Spilia village which has nothing to remind me of the last owner.... We visited the place last week..., the food was excellent..., especially the chicken a' la chef .... and the price for all dishes was very descent compared to the very good food quality... people there were serving us with smile and we enjoy to the maximum the cyprus hospitality.... highly recommended. ... give it a try...oh and don't forget to make a reservation at 22519559 in order to make sure that you gonna find a table :-)

It was very unfortunate we have chosen the specific place for our mid-day Sunday dinner. Very little quantity of very poor food. The marrows were not cooked well to be tender, the chicken and the potatoes needed more cooking and the pork souvla was overdone and slightly burnt.
But the worst was that the downstairs room we sat was freezing. I would not believe it when I was given the explanation that " it was so cold because they were keeping the outside door open for the smokers".

Near Platania, before arriving to Troodos , at the entrance of Spilia Village, is located The Sama Restaurant. The place was clean, nicely decorated, that i liked a lot, the food was plenty and tasty, served in traditional pottery, the service was excellent , the atmosphere downstairs we've been seated, nice and homely, and prises reasonable. We also had Cyprus coffee and dessert. That impressed me was the variety of hand-lotions, at rest-room.
I recommend this Restaurant.
Near Spilia Village is the Church of Panayia chrysokourdaliotissa, dated 16th century that is newly reconstructed.

We visited the Sama tavern for a second time on a Sunday for lunch after deciding to take a trip to the mountains.

We ordered the meze dish which we later found out it costed 19.50 euros per person as we weren't offered any menus to choose from. This is very expensive for Cyprus standards.

The food was very basic since the last time we visited (about a year ago) and it included tahini, yogurt, olives, salad, pourgouri, fried potatoes, haloumi, sausage, zuccini, pastichio, souvla and chicken.
Both the souvla and the chicken were seriously undercooked that you could see the blood in it so we hadn't touched that.

The waitress was polite and friendly, although at a time when we needed a fork she decided it was better to get one from a nearby table were some kids were actually sitting instead of bringing a clean one.

Again, the price we paid for the quantity and quality offered was overrated. We heard that the owner changed since the last time we visited but we wanted to give it a try. Sorry, but never again!
