“Patience is Golden”
Reviewed 4 October 2013

My wife and I called in for a cup of coffee each it was mid week and the place was not busy. We waited patiently for thirty minutes and despite asking how long we would be kept waiting nothing happened and we left never to return again.

It is extremely difficult to be able to respond appropriately to a review, six months after your visit, other than to say I am surprised at your comments if as you say, the tea cottage was not busy.

“Disappointing, unhelpful, misleading.”
Reviewed 29 September 2013

After a failed visit last month (arrived at 4pm but we were told it had just closed, even though some tables had just been served meals and we only wanted a drink - website says open til 5pm). We arrived just after 3pm and asked for afternoon tea which the website says is served from 2.30pm. The woman serving us unapologetically said they said had run out of scones so could not serve afternoon tea. We asked if we could just have sandwiches but were told no, they stopped serving food at 3pm. We settled for a slice of cake each as we were so hungry. The cake was overly sweet and the espresso walnut was very dry! We were very disappointed and felt that the woman serving us couldn't care less! Incidentally, I would expect to at least have a teaspoon to stir my tea with, not a sundae spoon!

We will not be making the effort to visit again when they can't make even the slightest effort to serve us politely or be helpful in any way!

Thanks for your review, this weekend has been unexpectedly extremely busy and despite making additional scones throughout the day , unfortunately, we did have availablility problems with scones and also a long delay for hot drinks.
We do try to please - but on this ocaasion, it does look as if we failed, apologies for that.

“Beautiful breakfast”
Reviewed 25 September 2013

Yesterday we called, as we often do to Edensor Tea Cottage, a little earlier than normal and just in time for the best breakfast we have had in a long time. We had A Peak Breakfast which consisted of bacon, sausage, fried egg, black pudding, baked beans, tomatoes, mushrooms and toast. We were very lucky because there were only three ladies on duty, on of whom had only just begun to work there. The quality of the food was excellent, served hot by very helpful and friendly ladies at a very reasonable cost. Try it you won't be disappointed.

“Never again”
Reviewed 21 September 2013 via mobile

Our third visit. Really wanted to like this place as we enjoy the walk from Chatsworth with our elderly mum.

Not very busy when we arrived. Lunch saturday.

The lady who appears to be in charge came to our table but we needed a couple of minutes to decide. She never came back. People who arrived after us started going to the counter to order so we followed.

We waited a while and then were served disgusting mushroom soup - liquidised mushrooms in stock that was overseasoned with pepper to make it tasty and needed some cream. Thrown together ham sandwich on the soup and sandwich deal. My very stale Brie and bacon panini was luke warm. Left most of it as it was so dry. 1 rasher of bacon! Saw paninis going to a table and mine didn't look like those. Think mine was stale ciabatta. Smoked salmon sandwiches on doorstop bread.

We received a reduction on our bill but left feeling dissatisfied. Three times now and each time we have been disappointed.

Will continue to go to the Chatsworth farm shop cafe which never disappoints. Can't count how many times we've been over many years.

Having just returned from my first break since we opened in March 2012, I was disappointed to read your review and that the food was not to your satisfaction, apologies for that.

A lovely village to wander around, just opposite the Chatsworth estate. Visit the Tea Cottage for coffee and yummy home made cake!
