We had one night in Bakersfield on our way back from Sequoia NP before a flight from LAX. We had made enquiries across the road but the room that was on offer was almost twice as much and smaller.

We were greeted by friendly staff and a great rate - way cheaper than we had paid for the last 2 weeks in much more basic motels. Our room was on the ground floor and overlooked the pool, with a good patio area to sit on.

It was clean, spacious, had a fridge and the bed was comfortable. The bathroom was a good size and the shower was hot and powerful.

The pool area is lovely with nice gardens and pool towels are provided.

We had no issues with noise, which was not the case in other places that we stayed in, and had a good night's sleep.

The added bonus of a breakfast for the value price was great. The icing on the cake was that the desk staff let us have a late check out so that we didn't have to leave too early for LAX,meaning that we had a lovely relaxing morning and a shower just before we left.

It is right next door to Buck Owen's Crystal Palace (the only attraction in Bakersville according to my guidebook) and were gutted that it was closed on Sunday evening as was the restaurant adjoining the hotel.

For value, this place can't be beaten.

Room Tip: We had a no smoking room on the ground floor

We were just making a stopover in Bakersfield in the middle of a road trip and wanted a really good night's sleep, so we paid a bit extra to get this hotel rather than the various other chains in the area because it was top-rated on a few sites. It was alright, but we expected better. The rooms were clean and comfortable enough, but absolutely devoid of charm or any sort of pleasant design--they felt like concrete boxes with office carpet and a couple beds stuck inside. The AC was ridiculously loud (seems to be a common thing in Best Westerns) but worked well at least. We had a room facing the outside of the building--basically a giant parking lot, like most of Bakersfield, but we weren't there for the scenery so not a big deal. The staff were not great--for some reason it took about 30 minutes for us to check in at 10pm when we were tired and really desperate to rest. We overslept the next morning but decided to check out the restaurant anyway--when we walked in the door at 1 minute past the time breakfast is supposed to be served, we were yelled at by 4 different staff members before the door even closed behind us. We understood that we missed the free breakfast but thought that maybe we could even buy a cup of coffee or something (it's a regular restaurant) and that's why we decided to check it out anyway--the level of rudeness we experienced from daring to do that was completely uncalled for. The housekeeping staff were knocking on our door an hour before checkout for some reason even though the do not disturb sign was out. The only thing about this hotel that was particularly "good" was the pool area--a nice palm oasis with barbecues, picnic area, gazebo, lots of beach chairs, and a large pool that goes up to 9 feet.

Room Tip: Get a room facing the pool.

We found this hotel quite by chance and what a find it was! The rooms are situated around a central garden area with pool. This area is immaculate. Tall trees for shade, a beautiful, clean pool and seating both around the pool and in the gardens. The ground floor rooms have windows that open onto the gardens with seating areas. The upper storey rooms have balconies with seating overlooking the pool. The only downside for us was that there wasn't a lift so we had to lug our cases up a flight of stairs. Next time we would book ahead and ask for ground floor!

Room Tip: Choose a ground floor room if you have lots of luggage or can't manage the stairs

This was our worst stop on our 5200 mi road trip. The hotel is convenient to main highways as long as you have a GPS. The outside looked decent and the Crystal Palace turned out to be the honky tonk next door. Two receptionists had to field the 6pm arrivals by themselves and then its shift change and they are down to one! We got room instruction and a map that pointed us against parking lot traffic (there is a bottleneck behind one corner of the hotel where only one car could drive thru).

After parking we spent 10 minutes looking for our room because the place is huge and poorly marked. It is as hot in the corridors as outside because the doors to the buildings have no locks, are propped open. This is the only hotel I stayed in where non-guests had unrestrained access to the hotel corridors. No security cameras that I could spot. The room we received was for people with physical disabilities so it was large and probably less abused the others that I saw. The room was clean but did see a cockroach pop out of the drain when I turned on the shower. Could not tell if it was dead or alive! Flushed it down too fast. Tried to call front desk for WI-FI connection...busy signal. No success after repeated tries.

Breakfast was best part of the stay. We received a voucher for a restaurant that was part of the complex. Got to order from a list of 7 items. One nice waitress for the hotel rush. At 8 am the others showed up. Pool is outside in the middle of the hotel quadrant surrounded by palms and ornamental landscape. Would be nice except for some staggering characters with open bottles of hard liquor wandering around.

Room Tip: Seeing some of the comments ask for the handicap room!

This hotel was horrid in all ways from filthy carpeting, old furniture, non-working lamps, icky bathrooms and smelled terrible. Upon arrival the whole lobby and hallways have a strong rancid odor. The staff was unaccommodating and down right rude. I should've listen to my inner voice about the price being too reasonable....with this hotel you definitely get what you pay for!

The motel is conveniently located just off the Buck Owens exit of 99North. The motel has inside corridors so you do not get to park right outside your room. The staff person on the lobby desk was not very friendly and she could use extra help during the busier hours as this is a fairly large establishment. Room was clean and fairly spacious and the bed was comfortable. There was a refrigerator and microwave in the room. The internet worked well. There is a large pool surrounded by a well tended lighted garden with walking paths and a gazebo. There is an exercise room with a lot of windows in the garden. One f the lamps in my room was missing a bulb and I ran into the maintenance man on my way to the front desk and he promptly replaced it. The free breakfast is in an attached restaurant with waitress service and their are five menu items to chose from.

Room Tip: Request a first floor room that has access to the pool and gardens.

Had a nice stay. Great pool for the kids, clean, free breakfast, not a buffet but a real diner with several things to choose from. Would stay again. The staff were overworked at the front desk and more help is needed.
