“Liked the location but not the room.”
Reviewed 27 June 2006

While the Bay is beautiful we were given a room that is for the handicapped. While I have no problem with the handicapped it was a little much to be in a room with bars in the tub, next to the toilet and the handicap symbol on the door to the bathroom. I was told I would be in room 103 when I booked the room What I WAS NOT told is that room 103 was for a handicapped person. ALSO. Decor in this room is COMPLETELY different than the others. The bed spread was rose floral as were the pictures. I looked in all the rooms on the bottom floors (the have glass double doors so I was not spying) and they all had contemporary bed spreads and furniture. My husband said it looked like he was staying at his grandma’s house. AGAIN, nothing against the elderly or handicapped but it was not our idea of a nice room. The young lady at the desk offered us a room upstairs one night and then another room downstairs the next night but the upstairs room did not have a balcony and in the end we did not feel like moving every night. I feel a little taken because the person who booked my room "KNEW" that it was a handicapped room and said nothing. I would have asked for something else. We were at the end of our honeymoon trip and this left a bad taste in our mouths.....
So moral of the story. Stay here, it is beautiful property, quiet and peaceful, but if they offer you room 103... JUST SAY NO.
Oh yeah, the do offer the freee brekfast now at the coffee shop across the parking lot. It was pretty good, but bread was burnt both days.

I don't write reviews, but this inn is an exceptional one.
This inn is truly a hidden treasure in California. The view of the bay is stunning, you'll be amazed by the serenity. Birds chirping, perfect view, and nice clean room. What more can you ask ? They serve wine and cheese in the afternoon.
This the only inn that I'd come back to over and over again.
The breakfast is not that bad as reviewed, they are planning to offer a full breakfast from a nearby cafe for no extra cost.
You won't regret it.

This Inn has recently changed hands and the friendly new team are still finding their feet (muddled details of booking, poor directions, dreadful breakfasts) but the serenely tree-framed ocean+pelicans view from bed more than made up for minor niggles. Sound-proofing absolutely dismal so no good if you have manners and children, a cold or a penchant for loud music. Some of beach not clean so do not take toddlers for sand-castle building.

The breakfast, incidentally, is delivered to the hook on your door which is a great idea - it's just that the contents were stale and poor quality. We did suggest how they might be improved - and you could always forget luxury and put your own in the fridge. There's no microwave.

This place could become seriously pricey and/or lose its charm so take earplugs and try it. Local restaurants very good and there's a launderette up the way that we found by accident.

We typically stay somewhere around Morro Bay to break the drive from LA to the Bay Area. Rather than just spend one night we decided to spend two and do some hiking. This was the absolutely perfect spot. The calm and the view over the water were unbeatable, and the cheerful and helpful staff was a real bonus. The wine offered in the late afternoon was a great complement to the sunset. Great calzone at Planet Pizza around the corner and a shop 3 minutes away has the morning papers and a nice selection of local wines.

spent two days of our honeymoon here, should have stayed longer. Can't believe the incredible views of the bay in the morning. Great place to stay while exploring Morro Bay or Montana del Oro. October is a great month to visit here. Will definitely stay here again!

My husband and I spent two nights at the Back Bay in September on our way to LA from SF during an "empty nest" celebration trip. Not only was the location on the back bay lovely with the dramatic effects of low tide, but the small town atmosphere of a small coffee shop next door full of locals and a pizza place and two other restaurants with local appeal made wandering the streets at night fun and relaxing. We took a tour with Central Coast Wine Tours (see website) on one of the days we were there and received the "royal treatment" as we were the only couple in the van. We went to several tasting rooms in the SLO area and had lunch in a dellightful downtown SLO restaurant..... Picked up and returned to the door of the Back Bay Inn by our driver and tour guide! Hopefully will return to the area and stay here again...

We stayed at the Back Bay Inn twice this year and find it to be the best get away around. The people are friendly, the service is excellent with wine and cheese in the evening, a coffee maker in the room and a breakfast basket at your door when you awake. The Inn is beautiful and the surrounding area is quiet and peaceful. A wonderful place to relax and unwind with spectacular views from early morning until late at night. We will return again soon.
