“Baywood Inn Above Average”
Reviewed 18 January 2014

We arrived about 8pm (the management left and told us where to find the keys to the room). It was a bit awkward at first, but once we got the keys were okay. The rooms were decorated uniquely and not too bad. More of a lodge feel to this two storied, what appears to be a former office building.

The beds were great. Showers were circa 80s/90s decor but fine. Spacious, with fireplaces. Not a bad stop off the main road. AC of course. Breakfast across the street at a GREAT little coffee house shack thing included.

Room Tip: The 2nd floor will give you a better perspective of the Bay.

We have a tradition of going on "retreat" every January to catch up on some rest and relaxation after the crazy busy holidays. In the past we have stayed in Cambria and Asilomar, but our stay at the Baywood Inn impressed us so much we cannot wait to come back! This said even though the city began to dig up the sewers in front of the Inn on the first morning of our stay. It was very noisy in the morning, and most of the restaurants closed down due to the roadwork. We considered leaving early and going elsewhere, but the room, the bay,and location made up for the construction woes. (Great hiking at Montana de Oro, Piedra Blanca Lighthouse and Hearst Castle close by.) We stayed in the Cape Cod room: tasteful nautical theme, double fireplace, and room enough in the living area for both of us to spread out and do yoga. Sweet potato pancakes at Good Tides for breakfast, and a fireside Mexican dinner at Palapas were the foodie highlights. Wish we could have tried the pizza place but it was closed. Definitely want to come back when there is no roadwork and all areas are up and running!

My wife and I have stayed in Baywood Park a number of times, including at least twice at the Baywood Inn. The last time we were there, about a year ago, we arrived (without a reservation) about 20 minutes before the front desk was supposed to close for the night.

Initially, whoever was on the desk answered the intercom and told us there were no available rooms. This was obviously not true, because there were only about three cars in their parking lot and Bay Park isn't known for any night life that might have drawn away any guests for the evening.

Finally, she agreed to come down to the now-locked front door and show us a room. After waiting for over half an hour in the chilly (low to mid 40 degree) entry, we finally gave up and left.

We will never again stay at this B&B.

The Baywood Inn B&B was by far the best place we stayed at throughout our road trip. As my girl friend would say...this was the bestest ever! We were so surprised when we were shown to our room...all we could do, was jump for joy! We had arrived late, and missed the wine and salsa and chips. Without even asking, they graciously brought it to our room, no less... two big wine glasses of a nice, red Californian wine, with a bowl of homemade salsa (and spicy too!) and tortilla chips. We couldn't have been more tickled pink! We had a choice of where to have breakfast...we chose Good Tides Coffee House...yummy! and included in the price. The view from our room, the Emerald Bay room, was fantastic and calming. We had a fireplace, which we used...so cozy! I would go back there in a heartbeat, and plan on going again in the near future. I highly recommend this B&B.

The Baywood Inn is charming! The staff is particularly friendly and so helpful! Our room overlooked the bay right which is right across the street. The rooms are large and spacious. The fireplace kept us toasty as the evening fog appeared. Walking right next door to a terrific restaurants were convenient. The food fabulous in all of the venues. We are planning on returning and staying in another of the thematic rooms. We liked the Victoria room, but I have my I on the Country Cottage next time. There is also plenty to do nearby. Sand dunes, wine country and antiquing in Cambria! The price is right also!

We planned to stay at the Baywood Inn while visiting San Luis Obispo area on our honeymoon. The staff was very nice but the room, although clean, was a bit of reach for us to stay in overnight. I was not made aware the room did not come with air conditioning and during our "scheduled stay-July " it was a bit over the normal temp. which required some form of air. There was no overhead fan and I was advised by the front desk to open the lever windows, which didn't really resolve the issue and with no fan to move the air into the 80+ degree room- less than desirable. Although I'm sure it's a nice area we did not fill comfortable being on a ground floor with windows open all night. I suggest they advise clients prior to staying there is no air conditioning or fan in the ground floor rooms and stay at your own risk.
We travel for a living and just did not feel comfortable staying so remote in a room with the windows open all night to allow a criminal EASY access. No Thanks!
We decided it wasn't worth the risk and stayed elsewhere. Sadly the Baywood did not refund my money, which had I know there was no air or fan I would not had booked the room in the first place. Perhaps they can use the money to purchase a small window unit for future guest.

Room Tip: Stay safe, don't leave windows on ground floor rooms open for intruders!

This place is just outstanding in every way. From the different decor in every room, each one more delightful than the other, to the amenities. I recently stayed in the Avonlea Suite with a friend & felt as if I had designed the rooms myself. The bathroom had tulips painted on the cupboards & a Frank Benson print above the bed. A lovely sitting room with a fireplace. Coffee maker, microwave & fully stocked fridge for a late night treat. A bag of microwave popcorn is available (free) for a snack while you are watching one of their free DVDs. There is water & drinks in the fridge at no charge. The suite is quite spacious with a couch & table & chairs in the sitting room, but there is plenty of room in the bedrooms & bath as well. Free wine & snacks are available at the next door restaurant, La Palapa, from 5-6.
We had breakfast delivered from the Good Tides Cafe across the street. Breakfast was delicious. Homemade oatmeal laden with raisins! Good coffee & Tea. Nice touch of fruit with our meals.
There was no view of the bay from our room, but the mezzanine was just outside our door & we had a cozy view from there. The bay is just a short jaunt across the parking lot. If you are in the area make a reservation! Friendly staff too. They even kept the restaurant open for us even though we were the only ones there! The food was very good here too.

Room Tip: There are many different themed rooms. Check the pictures on-line to see what matches your personali...
