Unfortunately this was the first time I was able to stay here, it was warm, clean and they provided a great family atmosphere. By the time we left we felt like it was our home away from home. Thank you Tamarack Lodge.

Our room at the Tamarack Pines Inn was very nice. The remodeling has been tastefully done, giving the inn a modern feel. It would have received an excellent review, but I feel the room could have offered a small table and a couple of chairs since it did have a small kitchenette. The drawback was no place to sit. Even a small table and a couple of folding chairs would be easy to add. Unfortunately, the family below us DID NOT observe the quiet rules. For two mornings, their kids started in with whining at 5:15am. It continued throughout the morning. Yes, the walls are thin, but the family was very disrespectful in my opinion. Wish I could have gotten some good sleep.

Sonia,
Thank you for your comments! Great suggestion on the table and chairs. We have added a small bistro table in #32 and comfortable chairs for light meals and coffee, cocktails, reading, etc.
We enjoy being family friendly, but the downside can be noise. Sorry that was part of your experience, but I am happy that overall you were pleased. We hope you return!

We stayed in the White Bark studio suite, room #32 on the third floor. Be advised there is no elevator but we didn't have a problem taking our luggage and ice chest up and down the stairs. The room was spacious, very clean, and newly and tastefully renovated. We enjoyed opening all 4 windows for good ventilation and views of the granite and trees. The bed was very comfortable. The website says sheet sets are provided but you can request on your reservation that the beds be made prior to your arrival. Extra pillows are in the closet.

The kitchenette was small but well-stocked including dish soap and paper towels. There is a mini-fridge, microwave, stove and 10-cup coffeemaker with coffee and condiments. There was no table or desk so we just held our plates on our laps to eat.

The bathroom was newly tiled and very clean. Extra towels and washcloths were provided.

We had brought lawn chairs and loved the campfires in the secluded back yard both nights. There is also wrought-iron furniture on the small patio.

Since we were the only ones staying there, we don't know how soundproof the rooms are.

It's a great location, near Bear Valley and Lake Alpine.

Room Tip: We loved our third floor studio suite but be advised there is no elevator.

The owners have done a nice job updating a "quirky" place to a current, clean, straight forward floor plan. The new bathrooms are nicely tiled, kitchen cabs are all new wood cabinets.

The REAL draw is the proximity to the ski runs. One eager beaver dad left early, skied a couple hours, and returned before noon to pick up the slow starters.

Good value!

We were among a large group of friends renting the whole lodge, and really enjoyed our week there. We especially appreciated the convenient location, accessible to day trips to nearby lakes, state parks (Big Trees especially) and hiking trails in a lovely, not-too-crowded area. Appreciated how well each unit was furnished far beyond the basics.

I stayed at Tamarack Pines Inn with SIXTEEN friends for a week; we filled the place; cooked our own meals in the large, central kitchen/dining room. During the day went hiking and in the evening to the Bear Valley Music Festival... it was a great time, significantly enhanced by the ideal location of the Inn and its spacious accommodations for couples and singles on the three floors. My husband and I spent three days in February at the Tamarack Pines Inn on Hwy 4 just downhill from Bear Valley. It has been newly-remodeled and it was lovely. In February in a low-snow year, we were the only people there! Our unit had a good bed, a full kitchen, a nice bathroom, and enough space. A second chair at the small dining table would have been nice, but we were able to pull over a bench for that purpose. A snowstorm hit the first night we stayed and we wondered if we were snowbound, but a man showed up as we ate breakfast and cleared the small parking lot. The Inn provides snow play equipment in a shed near the front door (for families with children) and also had a snow shovel and ice scrapers for the cars. We were glad to see this given all the snow.

It is only a couple of miles further to Bear Valley. We spent the days on snowshoes exploring that beautiful area. Not only are there the groomed trails at the resort, but also Hwy 4 -- unplowed after Bear Valley -- provides a great hike to Lake Alpine.

Tamarack Pines Inn is a less expensive alternative to staying at the Bear Valley Lodge and we will stay there again.
