People look at us funny when we say we are vacationing in Benicia, but this is a great little town, and the Shorelight Inn is our favorite place to stay. We used to stay on the far side of the interstate, a long walk from downtown. On one of our explorations we came across the Shorelight Inn, and were intrigued by it and its perfect location. We went in to get some information and were given a tour of the open rooms, and at that point decided that our next trip we would use this inn as our base of operations. The inn was once a small hotel called the Pink Palace, and was moved to a new foundation right on the bay. Apparently the funding at the time wasn’t sufficient and the inn didn’t open for years, under a new owner. Now it is a great place to stay. The first time we stayed in the Pink Palace room, which is on the top floor and has the biggest balcony. It is, however, one of the smallest rooms, and this April we stayed in the Benicia Bay suite which has the same view from the balcony and is much larger, with a two person Jacuzzi and a very pleasant sitting room, complete with a bar area. This is now our favorite room. Peggy has taken over as manager from Christina, and she is doing a fantastic job and made our stay very pleasant. We look forward to visiting again.

Room Tip: Benicia Bay has the same view as the Pink Palace and is larger.

I stayed at the Shorelight Inn for work in Benicia. Instead of commuting or staying at a chain (there is a Holiday Inn express), I stayed here. The TripAdvisor reviews do not lie, it is the best place in town. The owner and the other staff are just fantastic.

The location cannot be beat. You can walk to all the restaurants on first street and you can walk along the shore on the train just outside the inn. There is great Thai food, ice cream, bars, sports bars and a wonderful wine place called The Loft - all within walking distance. Also be sure to check out the old California State Capitol building!

I stayed in the Pink Palace suite. It's not as pink as the pictures show, and I was glad. The room faces the water. You have a nice patio and windows that will let in a ton of fresh air. I won't stay in any other room after staying in the Pink Palace!

All in all, a great stay. I will be back

We were heading to Davis for a celebration with friends on Saturday and so made the long drive north from LA on Friday to be in the vicinity. No time for Napa Valley or Point Reyes on this trip but we wanted to add something to help justify the choice to drive instead of fly. Benicia and the Shorelight Inn seemed to meet that goal, and we were certainly right, beyond our expectations. Benicia is right on the Carquinez Strait, the ocean inlet gateway between SF Bay and the Central Valley. Fortunately, the Pink Palace room was available and a little investigation found that it has the best views and deck. We arrived in late evening, a bit earlier than we stated, but a phone call is all it took to meet Christina. Check-in was simple and informative and the room was well-decorated and nice. The area was quiet on Friday night, and the view was enjoyable even at night. In the morning we had a very nice breakfast downstairs by ourselves (Christina checked on us midway), with plenty of choices. We then took a walk along the shoreline trails and looped into town (stopping at a few antique stores) and down to the jetty at the end of 1st street, then back to the Old Capitol (just 2+ blocks from the Shorelight Inn), where we expected to spend five minutes, but it was more like 1-1/2 hours - the docents did a great job. And lunch was great at the Capitol Cafe across the street from the Capitol. All told, Benicia became an added event for us -- exactly what we wanted for this trip. The Shorelight Inn made it happen for us: right location, right room, comfortable, nice breakfast, and no problems. We will look forward to another opportunity to visit.

Room Tip: Pink Palace has by far the best view and deck.

Christina is the sweetest lady and will make certain that your stay is most pleasant! She absolutely goes out of her way to make your visit special. I loved that we were welcomed with soft drinks, water or wine- anytime!! The complimentary drinks are a plus when you are a thirsty traveler. Breakfast was great- coffee, juice, fruit, cereal, waffles, toast, hard boiled eggs and berries. The Inn is on the water with walking trails and quaint downtown Benicia steps away. It is perfectly located for shopping, walking, getting a massage, restaurants, bars and water activities. I fell in love with this sweet California town. It was a perfect place to stop for a couple of nights before heading up the road to Napa. The prices are great in this town too! ENJOY!

I stayed here with two girlfriends. We found our room to be beautifully appointed and very clean. The Innkeeper was attentive and there to meet our every need.
We found breakfast to be wonderful...nice variety and very satisfying for a help yourself breakfast, nicer than typical continental breakfasts.
Our favorite part of our stay was the fabulous deck. We spent hours on the deck, overlooking the water, sipping wine, snacking, and chatting as only a group of girlfriends can!
We thoroughly enjoyed our stay here and look forward to a return trip!

What makes the Shoreline Inn the best is Christina. It is her attention to detail in all of the clean, tasteful rooms. Christina is the one that greets you and goes out of her way to make your visit special. A well stocked refrig and bar are complimentary. Pour your own drinks....no charge! The Inn is on the water with walking trails and quaint downtown Benicia steps away. It felt like a million miles away from our busy lives. The cost of a night is less than I expected. Don't expect a breakfast though....muffins and fruit, coffee and juice (fresh!). My wife always bring our own anyway so no problem.

We stayed at Shorelight for 5 nights while visiting Benicia in July, 2013. Christina could not have been a nicer hostess. The Inn was a wonderful find! Clean, quiet and well maintained. Do be aware that as a B&B there is no elevator so a room on the upper floor means lugging the suitcases up multiple flights of stairs. No cooked breakfast but the normal assortment of cereal items, fruits and toast. Nice cocktail hour. Also there is no A/C although nice breeze from water and ceiling fans in rooms. We will stay there again on our next visit.

Room Tip: Front rooms have balconies facing water.
