Divino on University Avenue in Berkeley is a relatively new restaurant with a great location and plenty of off-street free parking that is not easy to find in this town. The host Marco Polo Garbarino and chef Joan Gallagher are a dynamic team that make the dining room and kitchen hum if not sing with cheerful anticipation. Already the restaurant has attracted a number of regular patrons, and this is a sign of quality and good atmosphere that is worthy of notice. The food is good. At a recent dinner I enjoyed a specialty of the day that was wild salmon with garlic mashed potatoes and a Greek-style salad. It was appetizingly presented while not too filling. When followed by a first-rate cappuccino and dessert, it made a filling and very satisfying dinner indeed. A special added feature that particular evening was a performance by a local but highly accomplished and gifted jazz trio which was presented without any cover charge. That was one of the several value-added features of this restaurant. Another that merits mention is its family-friendly and child-friendly atmosphere. This is a place where the whole family can dine in relaxed comfort and everyone can enjoy themselves. Please note that they are closed Tuesdays.
