“Best food on a 3 week Oregon/California trip”
Reviewed 23 June 2013

This atmospheric restaurant has excellent, knowledgeable service, and the food is beyond excellent, with beautiful, exotic and subtle flavours. If I ever get to Berkeley again I won't hesitate to return; it's worth a ride on the BART if you're in San Francisco.

I suggest starting with the mezza smapler, with a variety of flavours. But next time I'll move directly to the lebna bil zatar, my favourite. The duck and butterfish maincourse were both outstanding, ant the grilled apricots were a very special desert.

Don't miss if you're nearby!

“Outstanding Mediterranean Food”
Reviewed 29 April 2013

Wonderful family run restaurant with great service. Had a wonderful meal, starting with tasty sangria; had delicious fresh veggies from their garden and meals to die for. Also a ridiculously rich and scrumptious poached pear and wine dessert with homemade gelato. Overall, a fabulous meal from start to finish.

“Small is Beautiful”
Reviewed 3 January 2013

This Berkeley hideaway is small but the food is great and service is also. Friendly staff prepare middle eastern food with panache. Since it's small, it can at times be busy, but you can call ahead to find out whether they are able to seat you soon. It's worth a trip.

“Interesting food”
Reviewed 29 October 2012

Four of us had dinner at this small restaurant on a Thurs. night several weeks ago. The place was just about empty at 7:00 p.m., which bothered us a bit going in. However, we'd been told it was good. And it turned out to be. The middle eastern food was very tasty. My wife had just returned from several weeks in Turkey, and said this food was similar to what she had over there, but that this was a lot better. At this point my memory is a little vague, but I think the menu was rather small. It is also a little expensive, I think, but not outrageous. The service was excellent (which is not always the case in an empty restaurant, because the servers tend to go to sleep in those circumstances). I would definitely try it again.

“Good middle eastern food”
Reviewed 27 May 2012

They have many dishes I had not seen elsewhere with some very good fish and chicken choices. I recommend the pureed pepper and pomegranite appetizers. Don't forget to ask them about their special homemade alcool free cocktails the mint lemonade is just wonderful as is the pomegranite spritzer. Beware, the restaurant is tiny so you need to call ahead of time to make a reservations and some of the seating can be uncomfrotable (wooden chairs).
