At $120/night, including tax, for a good-sized room, it is hard to complain about the Inn’s few downsides. Our room was quiet, apart from the clatter of the trash pickup Monday morning at 7, and a 3AM street cleaning truck a couple of nights later. The bed and pillows were excellent – I slept like a stone. The location is also excellent, at Bancroft and Milvia, 3 blocks from the Downtown Berkeley BART station.
There is no restaurant or coffee shop, but Shattuck Street, with plenty of eating options, is just a block to the East. Also, there’s a Trader Joe’s, about a 10 minute walk away at University and MLK. It opens at 8AM, in good time to buy breakfast provisions, if you like to eat in.
Also convenient, if one wants a car for the day, is an AVIS/Budget rental spot, just a block away, at Kittredge.
There were some negatives besides the occasional street noises. Our platform bed was a constant threat to the shins. I banged against the hard surface extending beyond the mattress a couple of times, before learning to watch my step. There was only one bedside lamp for two people when we first arrived, no fridge, and no safe for storing valuables. WiFi was unreliable, though Ethernet was available. The fan in the bathroom, which turned on with the light, was very loud.
That said, the staff was willing to help with our issues. A small refrigerator arrived when we awoke the 1st morning, and a 2nd lamp came with the cleanup staff. We left our valuables with the front desk, and they were returned to us on request.
All in all, we think the place is a keeper.
