i stayed on the 4th floor which reeked of Gumbo from the kitchen below. My window faced industrial pipes and a wall and the room did not appear to be well-renovated.The shower did not get hot enough. I would not recommend this hotel which I payed $378 for one night.

The Claremont Resort & Spa is a beautiful hotel steeped in history. The hospitality of the staff and the ambience of my room was unparalleled. My bed was so comfortable which gave me a great night's sleep.

This hotel is under new ownership and management. For the most part the beds are comfortable, the staff is friendly and the grounds are very nice. However at $400 a night you'd think there would be more attention to detail. Breakfast at the Meritage was disappointing with an odd oily after taste when eating eggs benedict. Too little hollandaise but the muffins were so mushy and the ham was awfully chewy. The glasses had fingerprints and dishwasher soap all over them. Took way too long to get a glass of water and we never did get coffee. The bed is comfortable and the bay views are amazing. Just skip the food. I'm sure the excellent valet will give you a regime ration for good food.

A huge thank you to the valet staff at the Claremont especially Dan Skinner, Adam and Steve for helping navigate uber pick ups at the hotel. These front of hotel staff set the very high standard of customer service that is the hallmark of the hotel. Twice Dan personally directed my uber driver.

I’ll admit first off that I’ve never previously stayed here but have admired the edifice and location as soon as I became aware of such things. I’ve lived in the area my entire life and have heard comments and criticisms of the hotel. Words to the effect of it’s getting long in the tooth...and more than a bit threadbare.
When viewing the Berkeley/Oakland area from the San Francisco side three landmarks stand out: The UC Berkeley Campanile, the Claremont Hotel and the Mormon Temple.
The concept of the Claremont falling into disrepair was sad and not a little upsetting to me.
So, we had occasion to spend a night in a Jr Suite at the hotel. A large, beautiful room with a nice bathroom with a walk-in shower. No frayed edges, no cobwebs, serenely and beautifully decorated with an incredibly comfy bed. Ahhhh. And the view...that view alone is worth the price of admission. Breathtaking.
The public spaces are elegant but not overwhelming or cheesy. The feel is perfect, the staff welcoming and professional. The infusion of capital from Fairmont’s acquisition has clearly revitalized and upgraded this place.
Ok, the commute into SF is, um, time consuming. But if you’re planning a trip to the area, you’d do well to strongly consider staying here. It’s elegant, a relative bargain and isolated completely from street noise...as in none. Zero. Plus, it’s beautiful and an icon.
You won’t be disappointed. And if you are, what does that say about you?
