We looked on TA for sushi places when we were in Berkeley and made a booking at Joshua-ya. We were fortunate to get a table outside (it was a beautiful night) and enjoyed the somewhat rustic setting while waiting for the food to arrive. The wait, however, turned out to be quite long (around 45 min). The staff were very apologetic and tried to speed things up and eventually the food arrived. We ordered fatty salmon nigiri (excellent) and two rolls (rainbow roll and a salmon avocado roll), also quite good. Price was reasonable. All in all, it was a very pleasant meal. It should also be noted that Joshu-ya is close to, but not on Telegraph Ave, so it is quiet and away from the Telegraph crowds.

FRESH fish, good atmosphere, great quality, attentive wait-staff. Stick to the Nigiri and sushi rolls, you won't be disappointed. Small, but thoughtful selection of sake by the bottle and reasonably priced. A very good dining experience in an area that is starving for decent restaurants.

This is a place I would come to again and again. Every time I have been here I have had something different and I have never been disappointed. Very fresh. Eclectic menu. Excellent service.

Our family had a wonderful meal at Joshua-Ya! The menu has so many options, but I have to say we had the best sushi in years in the Bay Area. Thick, fresh, delicious cuts of fish - not the standard rectangle tasteless sushi so prevalent these days.

The sliders were great, and the fried calamari were also delicious. It was packed (make a reservation), but go!

We've returned here one year later and this was exactly as we remembered it! Fresh, tasty and great outside seating. What we like about this restaurant are their original sushi compositions, among our favorites paparazzi, Marlin Monroe, spicy crunch and spicy tuna !

Will definitely be back there for lunch anytime from now where in Berkeley.
