“King size bed and great calamari”
Reviewed 7 October 2013 via mobile

We spent a night at Maison 140 before catching our flight back home. After 3 weeks on the road in the southwest we got the softest king size bed ever. In the evening we had some gin & tonics and the waitress suggested calamari as a snack, which were absolutely great!

When planning our LA trip I decide to choose this hotel following the suggestions of many guests and reviewers, whose favorable advice I totally agree with. Furthermore, I was attracted by the photos, that showed an Oriental inspiration in the lobby and the rooms, since I like this kind of decor. Like many boutique hotels, Maison 140 is very cute and stilish and has a touch of personality which renders the hotel peculiar and unique. Price is also very affordable (at first I thought that Beverly Hills would have been much more expensive); indeed, it was one of the cheapest hotels during our US trip (besides, we were lucky, for they offered us a free upgrade at arrival). Location is great, as I said, in the middle of Beverly Hills, though in a quiet street.
Air conditioning (as noted in other reviews) was somewhat noisy, but I slept with the windows closed, so this was not a major issue -and the same can be said for many US hotels. We had a room near the elevator, but we did not notice any noise from that side. Nothing to complain about cleanliness.
The hotel is also very close to some bus lines in Wilshire blv., which is very convenient. I was told that it is almost impossible to visit LA by public transportation, but I must say that this is not true, for I found metro/bus services very efficient and rational. Of course, one must take into account that LA is such big a city and that distancies are really great.
Before concluding, I must mention some members of the staff, who were kind, helpful and very friendly, Elijah and Ben. They helped us with restaurants and directions, but they deserve a special reward for their sympathy.
I would warmly reccommend this hotel for a perfect stay in Los Angeles.

Nice, comfortable, good enough level of luxury. Wall air conditioners that are a bit noisy. Thought it was a good deal until I had to pay an extra $28/day for parking, but that may be everywhere in LA.

This was a good hotel in a great spot.
Close to Rodeo drive and great restaurants
Well priced for location
The staff friendly and helpful
Rooms cleaned very well.
_
Noisy airconditioner which was a real shame as it affects the overall rating. If you are a heavy sleeper not an issue if you are light you may need ear plugs.
Shower a bit small. But your on holidays who cares
This is a good place to stay in Beverley Hills.
And yes we would stay there again

I doubt you can find a better value in BH, considering that this hotel is across the street from the Peninsula! Sure, I would choose it again.

Location is fantastic, and rooms are just perfect.
I did not find my room too tiny, even if I was staying at one of the smallest ones.

Having ever been to LA before and realising the sheer size of the city, we were rather nervous about booking a hotel here based soley on other recommendations. However, if you're in the same position as us then have no fear - the place is fabulous!
Easy to get to, the staff were all very helpful from the moment we arrived.
We had a Parisian room, which was quite small but fine for the two nights we were staying.
The bathroom - again, have to say that it was very tiny but it was so beautifully decorated that you couldn't help but be forgiving of it!
This is most certainly a boutique hotel - if you're looking for somewhere large then this isn't the place for you. But the room was clean, the bed linen was superb and the location meant that you were on Rodeo Drive and all the restaurants within a 15 minute stroll. The area felt safe for walking about at night too.
Free wi-fi in you room, car park was $24 a night which seems standard for LA.
The breakfast is extra ($14) so we opted to either go the Starbucks across the road or one of the little cafes on Santa Monica Boulevard (a 10 minute stroll) where you could get a much wider choice of food.
Can highly recommend it to others. Seems that the bad reviews were all from a couple of years ago and since then they have clearly had a make-over and the place is great.

Yes, the rooms are small, so go for the larger ones, but there is everything you could want, and it was impeccably clean and very quiet. The location is amazing, and if you're not in the mood for the continental breakfast on offer, there is a Starbucks about a block away.
The staff were discreetly in the background unless you needed them, and then "Johnny on the spot" when we did.
It would be nice if they could replace the "window rattler" air conditioners with central a/c, but that's the only negative.

Room Tip: Reserve a larger room. The smaller rooms are WAY SMALL. We had 219, at the back and on the corner, a...
