“Awesome campground”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 30 June 2011

We've stayed here several times and love it. I'm tempted to give it a bad review just to keep everyone away from our hidden gem! The campground is clean and well maintained. It's right by town, but tucked away so you'd never know it.

The staff is extremely friendly and helpful. Also of note, there is no dump station there, but if you'd like you can use the showers and dump at nearby Serrano for free. Always a great experience - we have reservations again for next month. And just so you know, the best spot in the whole park is number... nah, I'm keeping that a secret.

We stayed in site 29 for the weekend and had an amazing time. Site 29 was plenty big with room for 3 tents and 2 cars if needed. Sites 27 and 30 are to either side if you are with a group and in need of more space. We also had 2 relatively clean restrooms near us, a big plus with 4 little kids in our group. The campground is close to town which is great for activities but wooded enough so you feel you are deep in the forest. Snow Summit is in walking distance from the campground and we were able to ride the sky chair to the top for beautiful views of Big Bear Lake below. Amazing trip, already planning our next one!

I researched many places to camp at Big Bear and got mixed reviews. Pineknot Campground is located near Snow Summit and is a short drive to the lake. It took us about 10 minutes to get to the East Shore Boat Launch which is open to the public. We originally wanted to stay closer to the lake but were not satisfied with the campground we found near the lake. Pineknot is a beautiful and well-maintained campground full of trees. The campground backs up against the mountains and forest and there are great little hiking trails all around. You can also hike the ski trails at Snow Summit. We stayed in campsite #41 and it was by far the best campsite there! It is huge! #39 is also very good. All campsites include fire rings and BBQ grills. The campground does not have showers (but they do have flush toilets) but you can pay to use showers elsewhere if needed. Overall, the experience was amazing and we highly recommend this campground!!
