Almost thought my big tent would not fit the confines of trees, slight slope and fire pit but it did. I did feel a slope while sleeping but made adjustments. This spot is further away from rental apartments but do agree with first comment. It does not put you far away from main city and typical Carl's Jr down the road. Looking forward to camping in a more wilderness place.

It's lovely to get out of the city for a long weekend. This campground, although not remote or very private, gives you a little taste of what nature has to offer here in California. The campground is clean, well maintained. Bathrooms have running water and shower facilities. The lake is just across the street.

Read many of the reviews about Pineknot Campground before going, but did not know that most of the sites are on a slant. The campground was built on a hill and not on flat ground. This should not make or break your camping trip, but this little bit of information will help to prepare. We had site number 23 and the table was not level. Most of that site also has many rocks and only one good tent area, but in a slant. Site number 21 is a bit better and larger. Site 24 and 28 seem to be the worst on the hill. Sites 2, 4, 5, 8, and 9 are all too close to apartments buildings. As this is a close to city campground you will hear some traffic noise, most the loud bikes and sirens.

We did enjoy the time at this campground, it makes a nice quick getaway from the rest of Southern California. Restroom are clean, camp host are very nice, close to the rest of Big Bear, and plenty of trees for shade. Just remember that in most spots it all up hill from there.

We just spent a couple nights at Pineknot Campground and totally fell in love! This was our first camping experience and we were pleasantly surprised at how much fun we could have. We were lucky to get a spot right by the bathrooms and not too close to some of the other lots. Some of the spots toward the middle of the campground seemed really close to the neighbors but we had lot 36 and it was perfect. I loved that each spot had its own fire ring, grill and picnic table. Also, loved that the bathrooms were cleaned every day. :) I also want to mention that the camp hosts were so nice and helpful!

This is a great little campground tucked away behind rental town homes and right next to the slopes of Snow Summit. Very wooded and shaded, you'd hardly realize you're steps away from the hustle and bustle of Big Bear Village.

The campground is too small to have a ranger office at the entrance. Instead, a campground host comes around once you are settled in and checks your reservation. The campground was well maintained and clean, and each site had a large picnic table, fire pit and separate barbecue grill. All the sites seemed slightly sloped, so be aware when pitching your tent which direction your head will go, so you don't end up sleeping 'upside-down' :) Most of the sites we saw, including ours, were very large and could easily accomodate two tents... our tent was 10'x10' and we had room for at least another of the same size!

The restroom facilities are very basic, with a sink and only one toilet stall; however, there seemed to be lots of them spread out through the campground and there never seemed to be a wait to use them. They were relatively clean, but the 'mirror' consisted of a piece of reflective stainless steel bolted to the wall, and was pretty scratched up and useless. As is typical of campgrounds, no soap or hot water. I suggest bringing a roll of tp with you as the rolls seemed to run out pretty fast and were refilled barely in the nick of time.

There are no shower facilities at this campground. There are showers at Serrano Campground across the lake, about 10 minutes away. We were told $3 per person for the shower. Ugh.

The campground itself is potentially peaceful and quiet, but some the people who camp there are not. We've camped many many places over the years and there is a certain unspoken rule about noise and campgrounds. People who camp regularly seem to have a healthy respect for the camp experience of others. The 'campers' we encountered at this campground were a mixed bag. The first day we had neighbors who used a very loud commercial generator on their truck just to blow up their inflatable mattresses. Other neighbors pulled into the campground after a beer run with their radio blaring. The second night we had a group of 4 girls in the campsite next to us who made the noise of 20. They screeched and squealed and talked at full voice WAY past the 10pm quiet curfew. At 1am I finally yelled at them to keep it down, and they did. But I had hoped before that point that the camp host would have come by to reinforce the quiet curfew. At 8 months pregnant I should not have had to walk down the road to her site within hearing distance to ask her to do that, and I shouldn't have to be yelling at other campers at 1am just to get some sleep. I wear ear plugs at night and the screaming still kept me up.

In addition, you can hear the occasional ambulance pass by on the main road through town, and as Big Bear is under the flight path for the major LA area airports, there is jet noise overhead until the later evening hours.

This is a great campground with much better ambience than the seemingly more popular Serrano. We had a great time in spite of our neighbors. Make sure you make a reservation in the summer... it may seem like a 'casual' campground that will be easy to just show up and get a site, but both nights we were there were sold out, and walk-ins were left to drive by the campsites, looking for an empty one in vain.

We've stayed here several times and love it. I'm tempted to give it a bad review just to keep everyone away from our hidden gem! The campground is clean and well maintained. It's right by town, but tucked away so you'd never know it.

The staff is extremely friendly and helpful. Also of note, there is no dump station there, but if you'd like you can use the showers and dump at nearby Serrano for free. Always a great experience - we have reservations again for next month. And just so you know, the best spot in the whole park is number... nah, I'm keeping that a secret.

We stayed in site 29 for the weekend and had an amazing time. Site 29 was plenty big with room for 3 tents and 2 cars if needed. Sites 27 and 30 are to either side if you are with a group and in need of more space. We also had 2 relatively clean restrooms near us, a big plus with 4 little kids in our group. The campground is close to town which is great for activities but wooded enough so you feel you are deep in the forest. Snow Summit is in walking distance from the campground and we were able to ride the sky chair to the top for beautiful views of Big Bear Lake below. Amazing trip, already planning our next one!
