“1986 calling”
Reviewed 12 March 2012

1986 called and wants its hotel back. The cabin we booked appeared not have been redecorated or even cleaned in quite some time. I wouldn't have gotten in that jacuzzi without a hazmat suit. The bed came with hair, rips and stains but the fireplace.....no gas, no wood. Even if this place was cheaper by half I wouldn't have stayed. They returned my money and for that only I thank them.

Room Tip: Bring sandals for the shower.

We decided last minute to stay over night in Big Bear after a day of snowboarding. It was Presidents Day weekend and everything was pretty much booked. We had a stroke of luck at the Black Forest Lodge. There was a jacuzzi in the room and cable. The lobby smelt like lavender and the staff was friendly. We will definitely stay here again.

Just returned with 9 year old son. Horrible stay for 2 nights, paid for 3 but left after 2. Everything old, dirty couch with ants, no shower pressure, old mattress and disgusting comforter on bed.

Room Tip: Find another place.

Got to our hotel room: hairs on sheets and in the shower. Got another room: light bulbs burnt out in front room. Hotel very outdated, shag carpet, poor lighting (so you can't see the nasty). We were not able to get a refund because we bought package deal with our lift tickets. But it was so terrible, we just left that same night and drove down to San Bernardino. Costly lesson but it was worth not staying there. The reason people "luck out" and find rooms available here is because nobody wants to stay here!

I have stayed at this hotel several times over the years. I love coming here they have such cozy rooms each having their own unique decor. They have fireplaces which really adds a nice touch to the rooms. The rooms a good price for what you get. Also the staff is very friendly and will go out of their way to accomodate your needs.

Room Tip: Ask for the jacuzzi cabins those are really nice and cozy but if you need a hotel room they are just...

We came to Big Bear Lake, without reservations and lucked out to find an available cabin at the Black Forest Lodge. They let us look at the different rooms and cabins that were avaialbe and pick the one we wanted. We decided on a cozy cabin with a jacuzzi that has a very European feel about it. The staff was wonderful and catered to our every need! We HIGHLY recommed this Lodge and will certainly be returning.

Room Tip: If you are a skier, it is really great to come back to your room and jump into your own private jacu...

On April 11, 2011 I wrote a review describing how I had gone to the Black Forest for many years, and up until then it was a great place to stay. Since then, the management has become progressively more uncooperative and arrogant toward customers as they await their probable sale of the property and retirement to points unknown. Customer service is horrible, there has been no remodeling for years, and many of the units are dusty and dirty. I warn all prospective visitors again...don't stay here!!! And if you do...don't say you weren't forewarned!

Room Tip: Choose a room somewhere else. There is another group of cabins across the side street that is much...
