We visited Captains back in November and we really enjoyed our meal. They have a great little salad bar and a good variety of appetizers and entrees. Unfortunately this time our service and meal wasn't as great as it was in November. I would definitely not recommend the bar for eating dinner, but it was a packed night and we didn't have reservations (I would definitely recommend them!). The steaks were not the same quality as in November and the baked potatoes could have been baked a bit more. We had a couple of service issues as well.
The décor is like a fine dining establishment of the 1950s, but warm and homey. Our service last time was excellent but as I mentioned, not so great this time around. Hoping it was just an off night

Good restaurant - consistent food. Great prime rib with all the fixings, including soup and salad bar. Good fish as well. Great old, dark bar with an impressive bar menu and great happy hour. We go there for our anniversary every year.

Walked in on a Saturday night at around 8:15pm but was able to seat in the upstairs dinning area. Lorraine was our server who took care of us really well. We ordered the 12oz Prime Rib dinner $30 paired with Remy VSOP for $9.50 and also the Prime Rib for kids for $10 which were as big as the adult size but slightly thinner. A visit to the Salad and Soup Bar is included. Adding this place to our favorites in Big Bear. We will definitely be back and bring some friends and family next time.

Atmosphere was very nice. We dined updtairs in a cozy nook for two. The cocktails were great. His shrimp dish was wonderful, salad was crisp. The clam chowder was lacking flavor as were the pork chops. Grilled chops without any sauce. A balsamic reduction would have been perfect. Service was great too. I would return.

My wife and I had dinner here this summer and we thought the place was lovely. This is like stepping back in time to another era. Don't expect the high end restaurant venue you would get in Los Angeles or a menu focused on the latest health trends (I try to eat very healthy but will stray from time to time). This place is a rustic log cabin restaurant with a menu that would be served in the 60's. It was a great place for a relaxed dinner on a summer evening. We will come back in the winter after a day of skiing.
