“Best Lodging Experience Yet in Big Bear”
Reviewed 11 July 2010

We stay in Big Bear at least once a year and can easily say this was our best experience yet with lodging. The Hosts were very friendly and extremely helpful. The cabin was great -- lots of room, clean, comforable. Good community areas including playground, BBQ. Each cabin had a bbq and picnic table. Great location very close to lake and the Village. We felt very welcome and safe.

If you like camping, enjoy the outdoors, being nestled in middle of pine trees and the smell of firewood like we do, then Timberline Lodge is the place to go! My husband and I felt like we were camping but with the luxury of being indoors, our dog loved it.The manager Fendi (sp?) is so friendly and will help you with anything you need. Yes, the office does close early but hey, you have to love the small town feeling here, not like the city. Your not bothered here with maid service and yes you can hear the traffic (not that loud) & only if your in the very front otherwise get a cabin in the back. Oh by the way, Fendi has the best treats in the front office! If your looking for a 5 star hotel, than go to one but if you want to feel like your in a middle of a forest this is the place to go......we got a cabin with the kitchen and everything was clean especially the bathrooms. We love it here and will be back again! I also found out up the street and around the bend there is a picnic area and also zip line! vanallen

Here's the scoop: if you want a 4 star hotel this isn't it. It's crude, rustic, and yes a little run down. But we have gone there every year with a group of friends for the last 4 years and will be going again this Sept. Why? Because it is incredibly dog friendly and the owners are incredibly nice and there are few things as much fun as going to Big Bear Lake with your dog. So if you have a dog and want to go hiking, swimming, and dock diving, this is the place to stay.

I read a few negative reviews here and I have to assume that the people who wrote these are probably spoiled people who like to get THE VERY BEST and pay NOTHING.

I'd like to say "you get what you pay for", but in this case you do get more. For just $55/night I relaxed in total comfort and was just minutes away from the Village and Lake (clear lake view too and near hiking trails). It's also modest, CLEAN, and accommodating. Fendy (the owner) gave me maps, free movies, and recommendations of what to do during my stay. I also got 2 free nights for my stay.

I think it's one of Big Bear's best kept secrets. Just don't come with expectation of Hilton or Marriott standards because it's not nor is it meant to be. It's simple, modest, clean, and economical. If you want more then simply loosen the bolts in your wallet and fork out a little more money somewhere else. :)

We were delighted to find this place within 3 minutes of the Big Bear town square, just beyond the Alpine Slide and sledding hill. In a sadly over-priced lodging town; Timberline blows the others away with Cozy & comfortable cabins starting in the low $40's. Many with fireplaces and most with full kitchens. (Their wood prices are lower than the grocery store.) Lots of easy parking on a well maintained lot nestled among giant stately pines. The owner is very kind and helpful. All units have TV & VCR. In the office there is an extensive video collection that guests are welcome to borrow as much as they like. Guests may also borrow sleds and other toys. We are making them our regular stop from now on.
